Bought a four pack of rib eyes at Sams club. I mean thick enough we can split one and make a meal with it. So we are talking three more meals. The other three are vacuum sealed for other days. So with today's steak we had cheesy fried potatoes and lettuce from the garden wilted. To get the wilt we used some of the bacon I cured and smoked. Chinese bacon and it gave the lettuce a great flavor. BilletHead is in a food coma

Kentucky Derby that is all we have heard the past few days. The official drink is the mint julep. I am not a horse race fan but we decided we wanted to try to make the official drink, This should be a thread of what we are not drinking .The Mrs. took a sip and gave me a frown. With a yuk follow up. Then I tried it. Said maybe I can get used to it, another sip and I am not sure I can get used to this. This is where the mint julep ended up! No more foo,foo drinks for the BilletHead's

A lot of food in one post, Did a pizza Sunday, Since the mixer was out the Mrs. did her potato rolls. Some of the potato roll dough turned into cinnamon rolls Then today I did a caramelized onion cornbread in one of my vintage cast iron skillets. Had all the food groups in it so that was my supper . Onions, peppers, chives, cheese and crumbled bacon added cornbread mix. Seemed making it there was a lot going on in it but it was very tasty, Supposed to feed eight at 450 calories per serving. My serving may of went closer to 600, add the long neck beer onto that, BilletHead

Shuttlecocks on a rainy day
BilletHead replied to BilletHead's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
fshndoug, Body materials from the rear mostly buck tail and saddle hackles. Head is a large dubbing loop of material similar to EP fibers spun up and wrapped to the eye. Head coated with fabric paint. Here is a tutorial. Not mine though. http://www.themidwest-drift.com/stouffers-shuttlecock As you can see mine are somewhat different. I take mine to the max you might say. BilletHead -
Not tonight tho1mas, Just a big green salad with fried wild turkey. Picked a mix of black seeded simpson, grand rapids and butter crunch. Have also a couple rows of romaine. Will be letting it get bigger. Need to put the wire framed cover back on before dark thirty so the yard deer will not have their fill too . BilletHead

Lettuce from the garden and turkey from the woods, The Mrs. reminding me this was her bird she got by herself . I reminded her this is the lettuce I planted in starter trays, planted again in the beds I had worked up and then babied while growing. She acted unimpressed , BilletHead

Glenn, Me and my manliness went and bought that myself, you should of seen the me and my clean shaven head got! I do use a hair clip to clip long material on the vice. I did swipe that from her and it has disappeared. Bet she repossessed and I need to get into stealth mode and see if I can swipe it back . So got the heads fabric painted. When dry tomorrow I will install the eyes and they will be done, BilletHead -
Picking lettuce in the rain, I put the waders and rain jacket on to do this in a downpour. Did not want to melt or dissolve. Mrs. says "you are such a dork" The You are such a dork remark gets me to laughing, The cleaned pile, BilletHead

Rain forecasts: Throw them all out

Beautiful Stein! BilletHead -
Back in the woods or should I call it a swamp this morning? Rained more last night. Instead of going close to the house I drove the ATV a half mile at 40 degrees to a farm South. Then I walked through the wet underbrush. By the time I sat down I was soaked to my crotch. Nothing talking to speak of. I heard one bird in the distance one time and that was it. Two birds have been taken down there by family members that own the farm. They told me to have at it as the place was crawling with birds when they hunted it. No so this morning nadda, nothing, the turkey dead sea today. So I made the wet ride back to the house. On the way by the field just South of me I busted some hens and off to the back side there was one lone tom. Back at the house I trekked to the back looking for him and even got wetter. Got back to the house to regroup and dry clothes, regroup, have some coffee and lick my wounds. Checked the upcoming weather event to see where a possible six inches of rain was coming. We have had five inches in the last two rains. Freaked out some thinking about this and redressed and walked to a pop up blind. Huddled down for the long haul and in fifteen minutes here comes one. Bee lining it to my hide. Kept quiet , not going to call and mess this up. In range, boom down he went. Now to the stupid part. I get excited as I always do, pulled a calf muscle trying to get out of the blind. Hobbled over to the still bird. Grabbed his legs and he proceeded to spur the back of my right hand. Blood began to flow and I dropped him. He than began to do the flopping around thing ad I just stood back and waited. The blood letting after wiping down on my pants several times, I was so impressed with what the Mrs. did with one of her pictures of the bird she got on her own I had to do this, Not to be outdone by her I did this too So when she gets home I will be doing the strutting and she will be graveling after her strutting last night when i got home as I beat her bird. Weight wise, beard wise and spur length Actually I would of shot a jake if it had came by. I would of never lived that down as the Mrs. would poke me any chance she could. Got him broke down saving everything possible. When we hunt we see groceries and waste nothing , We are done. Good luck everyone still out there. The birds will be growing webs between their toes and quacking after this next bunch of rain. BilletHead
