  1. You say the fish were sitting in the tops of the trees. So, they were taking it on the fall, or were you working it over the limbs?
  2. Sounds like Obamacare for outboards?
  3. I decided that fishing over the long 4th of July weekend would be a waste of time with all of the boats out, so I never even took the cover off the old Stratos. My Son and his girlfriend wanted to fish, so I bought them a few boxes of crawlers, gave them a few poles and told them to fish off of our dock. I figured they would catch a few bluegill, and then get frustrated with the little bait-stealers. This is what happened while I was napping: They ended up catching over 30 fish, including 5 keeper bass (2 K's, 2 smallies and a mean-mouth) Later that night, they caught 2 cats, both over 6 lbs.
  4. Skeeters are scarce because of all of the snakes and bats.
  5. Saw a guy launching an old 14' or 16' aluminum johnboat with maybe a 10 HP Johnson. He forgot to put plug in and it started filling fast. He jumped in the boat and put the plug back. This was the old rubber stopper-type on a chain that was on the inside of the back well. He yelled out, "Now how am I gonna get all this water outta here?" I yelled back, "Run the boat with the plug out and most of the water will drain out" Well, he started the motor, put it in gear, pulled the plug and started running, when he realized that he left his truck and trailer on the ramp. He quickly pulled up to the loading dock, jumped out and pulled his truck up to parking lot. We launched our boat and were ready to head out when we looked back and saw his tackle box and gas tank floating next to the loading dock. He forgot AGAIN!
  6. Not a Jika rig expert, but I think the rig is designed to allow the bait to move more freely, not necessarily make it stand up. when you shake it or hop it, it does seem to allow the bait to be more natural, if only for a short time. would think it would be great in current, ie. a river or creek
  7. Haven't used it lately, but used to have great success pitchin a Fish Dr, senko or centipede rigged wacky style on a spinning outfit in and around docks. Just let it sink on slack line and watch for movement. Once it hits bottom, lift it up a rod length or more and let it fall back a couple times. You can add solder or a cut-off finish nail to nose of plastic to change the fall rate, or just use a 3/0 or larger hook. Or, you can just move your weight up another foot or so on your split-shot rig and hook the middle of your plastic and let the split-shot do the work. This set-up is a little harder to work with, but I always have that rig on my deck, so it's quick and easy!
  8. Was hopin' someone could use it. Pass the word and let me know!
  9. Caught a gar! Son of a gun took my redfin and almost didn't give it back! Really didn't want to mess with him, so I shook him at the boat, and just as the lure came out of his mouth, the line snapped.
  10. Anyone need a 1993 12/24 foot-controlled Johnson trolling motor? I believe it's either a 36 or 42 lb thrust? pushed my 20' Stratos pretty well. Got 20 good years out of it. Motor is good, shaft good, mount is good. steering cable needs to be re-attached at pedal. It popped out when I took it off boat, and just too lazy to put it back on. Had some issues last year with it sticking in ON mode, but worked fine this year. maybe just needs a new spring, or contacts cleaned? PM me if you want it. Can't beat the price! Can meet you at my dock, near KC bridge.
  11. Are you tying directly to nose ring or using a split ring? You can try bending the nose ring up slightly. Keep rod tip high initially on retrieve and then slowly drop it as it gets closer. Takes a bit of practice to get the right combo of retrieve and line tie. Some guys will heat up the bill and bend it, but I've never done that.
  12. If you don't have any Zinkers or run out, you can use a 5" grub or even a chomper instead. Just snip off the tail/tails and/or the tentacles. Not quite the same, but it will work! I even modified a brush hog by trimming it to resemble the Zinker, and it too will work. I've found that if I pinch the bait at the top a bit, causing it to bulge, I can cut the bulge which "cups" the top and it snugs up on the head better. could even shoot some super glue up in there like some guys do.
  13. Ah, the Mink! Their primary diet consists of : -Expensive Boat upholstery -rubber-coated wiring in places you and I can't reach and apparently, new rain-suits still in the package?
  14. 6. The permit plate must be attached to the post, facing private property, no less than four feet off the ground From corps website Vegetation Management Application Another thread on this
  15. another happy customer! I'm gonna quit endorsing Tom, cause he'll be like that restaurant that Yogi Berra describes: "Nobody goes there anymore cause it's always crowded"
  16. Pomme de Terre is in the Kansas City District, Table Rock is in the Little Rock District, which is the group I have had good experiences with. My guess is that someone "heard" that you could cut down heavily damaged trees after the storm and then went ahead and did it. You need to contact the Corps and they will tell you exactly what you can and cannot do. I have had 3 separate occasions when I had to contact the Corps about storm-damaged trees, and they handled it well every time!
  17. There have been several posts in the past about the COE. As a lakefront homeowner, I have had several dealings with the corps relating to Shoreline Management and Dock Permits, etc. I find them to be very easy to work with and very professional. I have had several trees on Corps land damaged by storms. They ask me to take a picture, send it to them, and they reply with instructions on removing them. In one case, they came out to inspect and they suggested I take down a tree that was diseased before it fell and damaged my home. I have a vegetation management permit and have had it renewed several times with no problems. On the other hand , I have 2 neighbors that have misused that privilege, and have been fined. In one case, they put a 10 year ban on a permit, which just recently was reinstated. Below are the basic tenets of the Shoreline Management Plan taken directly from their website: Vegetative management permits are issued for constructing footpaths, clearing small brush, and mowing. Adjacent landowners must obtain a permit from the Project Office prior to any modification of vegetation in the area. An application must be submitted, accompanied by a detailed drawing to show the complete scope of work requested. Forms and assistance in completing the Vegetation Management Application are available at the Project Office. After completing an application, an on-site inspection by a ranger is required prior to issuance of a permit. Shoreline modifications are subject to the following restrictions: · Trimming of trees is prohibited. · No flowering trees or shrubs such as dogwood, redbud and serviceberry may be removed regardless of size. · Trees larger than two inches at DBH(4.5 feet from ground level) may not be removed. · Only hand-operated tools may be used. The use of heavy equipment such as tractors is prohibited. · Burning on public lands is not allowed. · Placement of permanent or mortared structures on public lands is not allowed. · No personal property is allowed to be stored on public lands. · Driving on public lands is not allowed. · The use of any type of chemicals on public lands is not allowed. Mowing and removal of brush may only be permitted in an area adjacent to a habitable structure. The limits of mowing will depend on the proximity of the privately owned dwelling adjacent to the government boundary. The maximum distance of mowing will not exceed 200 feet from the habitable structure. The ranger will determine the distance of permitted mowing at the time of the site inspection. A ranger must inspect areas proposed for mowing before any modification is done. Pedestrian access paths six feet or less in width may be constructed to the shoreline. The path must follow a meandering route to prevent erosion and to avoid the need for removal of trees and vegetation. Natural materials, such as creek gravel or wood chips, which blend in with the environment, may be used on the footpath. The permit does not convey the right to construct any structures (steps, bridges, etc.) in connection with the path. Only dead trees that present a potential safety hazard to a boat dock or other structure will be approved for removal. A ranger must have previously inspected the dead trees before they may be cut. Burning on government property is prohibited.
  18. That's interesting? Trimming trees is a violation of the Shoreline Management plan. I would verify that they said you could trim them!
  19. I would have asked her if the water she owns when the Lake is at 914' is the same water she owned when it was down to 908'?
  20. Don't feel bad! Look at the list: http://www.respoolin.com/omtt/results/2013/tablerock1 Some darn good fisherman that didn't catch a keeper-Boaz/Sherrill, Hughes/Sims, etc
  21. The only thing I notice when using it is I seem to get more bluegills nipping at, and sometimes tearing off the tails on my plastic jig trailers. They especially are bad after dark!
  22. Darn! And I was going to make millions with that idea! I guess I'll have to focus on my 3 wire parallel FB jig (A-rig style) I actually have played around with this. I take a 3 wire A-rig and shave off most of the weighted head. I put 2 FB jigs & trailers side by side and bend up the 3rd wire to run up above with either a weightless floating worm or fluke. The weight of the FB jigs keeps the rig upright and it looks pretty awesome in the water. Caught a few last Fall with it. I guess I'll call it an M-rig? (Mizzurah)
  23. I always wondered why nobody invented a jerkbait with a small water chamber that ran the length between the 2 trebles? Put a removable stopper or cap over the hole and fill it with lake water as needed to get the right weight? Wouldn't even need the BB's, as the sloshing water inside the lure would give you a sound attractant. Years ago, I had a small crack in a mega wiggle wart that I was using at LOZ. It would fill with water after a few casts and would suspend perfectly. Caught a bunch with that lure until a stump ate it.
  24. Well, one of our forum members happened to have an older Motorguide for sale. He PM'ed me, and I picked it up today. Hopefully, it will catch fish better than my old one!
  25. Actually, I can get underneath by removing front accessory panel and reaching through from storage lid. Had to take off mounting bracket and repair it 2 summers ago. Was fairly easy to get to and re-attach to deck.
