  1. As a small business owner, I couldn't agree more! I think if you read tpierce's post about he and his Son, you will understand the difference between empowerment and entitlement. His Son was empowered and encouraged, and I have no doubt he will be successful at whatever path he chooses in life. Unfortunately, since the New Deal (which was a good plan at it's core), each succeeding generation has expected more from the government, or felt entitled that they deserved something for nothing. Most of the taxes we pay today are a result of our politicians trying to keep the votes by giving away stuff to gain the acceptance of the next generation. Unlike tpierce and many of us, Parents today think that the way to gain their children's love and acceptance is by making things easier for them and giving them everything. Hence, the cycle continues!
  2. That spot looks familiar? Is that the cove between Schooner and Gobbler's Mountain? Saw you have the Diet Dew handy!
  3. Last one looks like a Devil's Horse? Or at least very similar. Before the Redfin, the ole Devil's Horse was my favorite topwater bait!
  4. Just to make it easier, I am displaying the pics here
  5. Fishing is like Sex: If you do it alone, then you don't have to worry about your partner catching anything!
  6. Maybe everyone is waiting for the new store in Memphis to open up? http://choose901.com/bass-pro-pyramid-announces-new-opening-date/
  7. The tube is a great bait! And probably more versatile than anything else I can think of ? You can swim it, jig it, free-fall it, crawl it, etc., etc., etc. I'm not sure that the Ned will out-fish any specific bait at any specific time? I just think it will out-fish everything else when you're not sure what to throw. Does that make any sense? (If Yogi Berra was a fisherman, he would understand) The fish doctor? Seriously, with your screen name, you don't know that it is? Made by Zoom, it's a small, straight, rounded on both ends, plastic finesse worm. usually fished on a split-shot rig or shaky head, or C-rig. flat on one side, which gives it a unique sliding action. Green pumpkin seems to be the best color. I have caught more fish on it than any other bait, by far!
  8. Title of this topic had me anxious for a second! Thought maybe one of my Big League BASS trading cards just became more valuable?
  9. Have fished the Ned about 75% of my fishing time the past 2 weeks, and I figure I have averaged right about a keeper/hour in 6 days out on the water, or a total of around 27 hours. 26 keepers by my count and only 4 shorts. Granted, no monsters, but some nice healthy fish. That's not exactly knockin em dead, but it's consistent fish-catching, especially for Winter. Last Spring, before I really knew what the heck I was doing with this rig, the results were even better both for size and numbers. So, here's what I've figured out, or at least observed: -when you think you're fishing it too slow, fish it s-l-o-w-e-r ! Seriously, you have to believe there is a fish nearby. fish it on slightly slack line, and shake it now and then without advancing the bait. -1/8 head is better in chunky rock, 1/16 better on gravel or dunking around docks. Also, the 1/8 doesn't hang up as much, and is easier to snap loose. -stretching out only the part of the bait behind the hook bend makes the bait stand up taller. Assume it has to do with the salt releasing and floating the tail up higher? -a high % of my fish have been BETWEEN, not in or under docks, on chunk or mixed rock banks. Cruisers? Probably? -I believe that with this bait, you are not throwing TO the fish, as much as you are setting a trap for them as they pass nearby. Which, again, is why you work it slow. -PBJ is THE color! And, here's the most amazing thing! (I'll probably hex myself on this one?) I have yet to have a fish come off! Every single fish was hooked in the top of the mouth with that silly little, tiny hook on 6 # line. In my 45+ years of fishing the Rock, I've always had a go-to bait that I had confidence in, and could always rely on in all 4 seasons From the old jig + eel to the Fat Gitzit, the brown worm, road runner, silver spoon, regular tube Gitzit, the Fish Doctor, Yamamoto grub, etc. This bait may just beat them all? At least until the next thing comes along?
  10. I was also out around KC today from 2 till dark. 5 fish, 3 keeps 15-16 1/2", 2 K's 1 SM All on PBJ Ned off chunk rock in 12-18' in White's branch and Fisher creek wind made it pretty tough to feel the bite Also had 3 bites on FB jig sitting in 40 FOW throwing into 25'. 2 of the bites were absolute lightning bolts! Can't figure why I missed them? I'm usually deadly on the hookset with the FB. First time using the Jewel 3/4 oz, normally use Chompers. Not sure, but maybe the barrel head and the weedguard/hook setup on the Jewel were factors?
  11. gotta think this should cause a major move up by these fish? I would think by Sunday and Monday, they will all come up and take a peek?
  12. My apologies for the forecast for this weekend! I was way off! Now, Kimberling City's forecast is for 71 on Saturday, 67 on Sunday. http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USMO0468:1:US Better check to see if I can find my sunscreen and flip-flops!
  13. Hey, Dave! Any reason why you couldn't rig up the Ned on a slip bobber for the young un's? Or, heck, for any of us? should be easier to cast for distance with a spin cast maybe put the stop at 18-24" and let that sucker sink down on a slack line. I would think you could move the bait along by just poppin the bobber a bit? might give a better bite-detector on a windy day, and impart some additional action, too?
  14. 67 Saturday, 62 Sunday! Yikes! You'll find me on the South-facing banks throwin that stupid little rig.
  15. Now,Dave, why did you have to go and drag religion into this whole thing? Now, the friggin ACLU will be all over us!
  16. sent you a PM, Hunter
  17. Last Saturday, right before dark, I was throwing the FB jig in about 40-45' on a creek roll-off. caught one good one and marked several others, but had to get back to the house for some of Mama's pot roast. And anyone who has seen me knows I don't miss many meals. Fishing is fun, but very unreliable. Pot Roast is a slam-dunk sure thing keeper every time! Was planning on hitting that same spot again on Sunday, but between the crappy weather change and several projects around the house, I never got to it. Heard from several others about marking fish, but not getting them to bite on spoon, grub or drop shot. Sometimes draggin that FB jig right through them will get em stirred up?
  18. I would try a jerkbait first thing in the morning. bluff ends, main lake and secondary points with wood. Then, I would work the Ned Rig on mixed rock banks in pockets, inside of points or transition banks back up in creeks. Schooner, White's Branch and Fisher would be good choices. Also, in those creeks, I would try to find the rolloffs into the channel and use your electronics to find that 35-50' depth. Spoon or grub will work if you can find the schools on the graph. If not, then move out to about 55-60' and throw a FB jig towards the bank and work it back.
  19. with all of those patches sewn together, I could have new coveralls?
  20. Taste good going in, and looks the same going out!
  21. Follow up to my report, which was thrown together rather quickly: First of all, I was using Dave's Magic Ned Heads(thanks, partner!), and I didn't lose one all day! bent weed guard a few times, but that's an easy fix. Tried both the 1/16 and the 1/8, but only caught em on the 1/8. I did throw it more because of the wind, but I think I just had a better 'feel' with it? All my bites were on mixed rock banks in creeks or pockets, and I only knowingly missed one fish. Seems like the second drag & shake was the ticket, which would put the fish at around 10-12 or so? Funny thing is that when I threw to the bank and worked it back, they didn't want it? So, I changed it up and cast to what I thought was about 6' and they hit it soon after that. Oh, and I was using a 6' 6" St Croix rod with a Daiwa reel and 6 lb Maxima in a Stratos boat with a Garmin up front, a Lowrance on the console, motorguide TM, 200 HP Johnson with an OA sticker, wearing Wrangler jeans, Hanes underwear, Columbia fishing shirt, UnderArmour Hot Gear short sleeve, hooded BPS jacket, Redhead wool socks and a pair of Thinsulate no-name boots I got for $11 on clearance at Wal-Mart 8 years ago! And, of course, some Diet Mountain Dew and 2 Snickers in the cooler! I would recommend that you replicate the above as close as possible to make the Ned rig work! Otherwise, the stupid bait is just plain worthless!
  22. yep, but there are NO fish in Fisher Creek! Never has been, never will be!
  23. didn't really pay attention to the temp, but I remember seeing 45.3. sorry I'm not much help!
  24. Got out at 1:30, fished till 5:30. 6 fish, all keepers. 2 LM, 3 SM, 1 KY. All but one on the PBJ Ned in 10-15 ft, mixed rock banks. 1 LM on the FB jig in 40 ft on rolloff.
  25. That makes sense! Never thought about it that way? At WOT, you are actually creating excessive drag, hence loss of speed and gas mileage. I rarely run at WOT. I can go 40+ with just me in the boat, and she is planed out nicely with the trim gauge barely over 1/2. I'll try taking it off and see if I notice the diff? Thanks!
