  1. Welcome to the school of hard nocks. I started using a wading staff in 2005 and never wade or hike without one.
  2. I'm older than I thought I didn't have microwaves when I cooked plastic . Sorry
  3. Thanks thats the recommendation I was looking for at my age I'm looking for safety and comfort.
  4. Thanks Patrick but it is alredy sold to my fishing buddy. You might check Craigslist there are a lot of boats out there right now I would look for a 175 for those lakes for safety reasons.
  5. I understand chief. It's only that I am of a different generation and growing up I saw things that I can't foreget and no kid should ever have to see again. As far as the James my leg and back problems and the lack of water have kept me out all summer, I think looking at the flow charts it should be in good shape and I was planning on going this week but now I got a problem with my left foot so....................
  6. Barlows tackle out of Richardson Tx was the company I bought from but that was a long time ago they have a website. There are a lot more on the net I know there are other members here who have more up to date info. My only advice is DO NOT USE YOUR WIFE'S Best pots when cooking plastic and it would be best NOT TO COOK IN THE KITCHEN get a Coleman stove and cook in the garage or basement. Also DO NOT STORE NIGHTCRAWLERS IN THE REFRIGERATOR if you avoid these things you will make it a lot easier to stay married for a long without doing a lot of .....................
  7. Moles, before I moved to Greene County I never saw a mole.
  8. Has anyone seen TinBoats.net website and have any opinion? I'm planning on getting rid of my Tracker 175 and getting a john boat to fish Lake Springfield and some of the small waters of my mispent youth. Kind of a bucket list thing. Because of a variety of physical limitations I'm looking at modifications I want too make for comfort. I also want to make sure it's safe.
  9. Fly fisherman don't murder people.
  10. Only is you use the right mustard.
  11. I have to disagree, chief. Try to exercise your freedom of speech in that same judges courtroom and see how much freedom you have. I can't believe I'm agreeing with jdmidwest but he is right.
  12. What about Finger Lakes I haven't fished it in a long time has it gone downhill?
  13. You might try contacting a realator in the area, a lot of times they know of property that might be available. That's how I bought and sold three pieces of property I owned in the past. Only one did I ever list for sale.
  14. Power Bait and Zoom still make Black Finnese worms and I always carry them but , thinking back over the the last few years I seldom fish them going more to watermellon or pumpkin or brown. But the go to bait for me on the James river is the 3" Gulp alive Chartruse Minnow fished on a 1/32 oz jig made on a # 1Matzuo cycle hook. I can fish it as a jerk bait, swim it or drag it on the bottom. I have a problem with bone spurs on my spine so I haven't been able to fish the river much this summer and I haven't tried this in really fast water.
  15. Google Arnold Rothstein or Chicago Black Sox
  16. Sometime in 2000 we had a tournament on Millwood nice fish were caught, great time on the water until returning and right at the dock I was greeted by one of these guys nowhere as big as this one, took my boat out of the water went home and never went back. I had been lipping my fish that day and kind of lost all interest in reaching into the water. Saying that, Millwood puys out some really quality fish but I don't believe there has ever been BASS or FLW tournament there.
  17. Wrong Chief, check with the Postal regulations. A long time ago someone I knew put a farm cat in a nieghbors rural mail box and got to spend a lot of time living free of charge in a stae institution I think it was Bellefontaine Farms in St Louis County of course that was about 55 years ago. I have used rural mailboxes living in the suberbs and have gotten an OK from the PO. We opted a long time ago for the rural on the post Mailbox so the letters will fit in with the catalogs and advertising.
  18. Weather guy this morning said western MO willonly get about an inch eastern MO could get up to 5 inches.......but when do they get it right?
  19. I use hi vis Trilene when fishing worms, jigs or grubs so I can see the line it doesn'tseem to hurt my fishing. I've been fishing Hi Vis since it came out a long time ago and I have fished clear water streams from NW Ontario down through the Mid south and it catches me fish. I don't use it on moving I usualy use green mono. I really think you should use the line that you are comfortable with. I've also used it for trout in trout areas caught fish there also.
  20. You might take a look at Mineral Springs, the next access below Dogs Bluff if theres any water left in that area there are three holes above Mineral Springs that you could paddle up throgh but you will probably have to drag between the holes. Depending on the water flow you might try further up river even as far up as Baptist camp. My nephew lives in Houston and he's been fishing the Current/ Jacks Fork around Alley Springs...
  21. I've owned a lot at Lake Sherwood in St Charles county when I lived in St.Louis county and in Hots Springs Village when I lived in Arkansas, usually you can pick up a lot pretty cheap, people arealways trying to sell when they move away for retirement or work transfers. Depending on the attitude of the residents and the POA these can be fantastic fishing or really poor fishing. Most of the time an active fishing club can help improve the fishing by putting in brushpiles, maintaing common areas etc. The downside can be the lack of interstructure, water & sewer mainly. But I enjoyed owning property and fishing at both places and if I could find a decent lake development around Springfield that didn't cost me an arm and a leg I'd look into buying property there
  22. Google "Bully's Bluegill Spider". Or get a copy of "Bluegill....Fly Fishing & Flies" by Terry and Roxane Wilson. They invented, I think, this pattern. The Bullys Bluegill Spider and a #10 Black Gnat Plain Designed by Tom Nixon which is a slow sinking wet fly and until the Bully's came along, has been catching me bluegill for at least 35 years. Add a # 12 Adams and Black Gnat dry and you can fill your bucket with bluegill.
  23. I have to ask, were they ticketed or arrested?
  24. Caught them every once in a while up in NW Ontario on Strike King single spin spinnerbaits back in the 80's looking for Smallmouth.
