  1. Do you tail hook them or hook behind the dorsal fin with a stinger hook............or?
  2. Shh, that's a secret!
  3. My only suggestion would be make sure you have plenty of time and Beer available.
  4. I apoligize I misread.....
  5. OK what did I post that wasn't true. What did JD post that was true. you know the stuff he posted in red letters the color of the Godless communest red chinese flag.Ponytail in humanities class ? Went to the school of hard knocks never whined like Tea bagsdrove a truck belong to the Teamsters Union saved and invested and retired at agre 56 with a $3,100 dollar a month pension and enough investments to carry me to age 62 when I started collecting social security so now I have to " shoestring" along on a lot more than most people earn at there jobs. If you and JD ever want to match wits with me the two of you would only be half prepared,
  6. The market was down around the 8000 mark when Boy George was in office it has gone up quite a bit since Presidnt Obama has been in office, gasoline still has not hit the $4.00 a gollon price we had when Boy George was in office and I haven't seen any pictures of any President kissing the crown prince of Saudi Arabia other than ......you guessed it..... Boy George.
  7. mic I changed my mind. I now believe creek fishing is done for me, ended last week when my expert repair on my waders failed, unless I buy new waders..............nothing like a leak at your wallet pocket.........wet foot is one thing
  8. If you are getting hung up on rocks you may be fishing with too heavy of a jig. You may need to go lighter I very seldom fish more than a 1/8oz jig and most of the time a 1/6 or 1/32 oz jig head in the streams I fish Like the James. My idea is to fish a bait heavy enough to get to the bottom but light enough to prevent it from getting hung up on the rocks. I do this because I wade when I fish.I have been buying jigs made to my specs from jig makers on E Bay because I can't buy what I want in stores and the guy I used to buy from who lived on the west fork of the Saline River, in the words of a mutual friend, had givev up on jig making because he had got him his first ever girl friend. If you want I can look up the name of the jig makers I use and post it here.
  9. I had my firearms training at Ft Leonard Wood in 1961, still don't know why I have to pay some body to certify me so I can carry a pistol.1,000 yards? Our longest were 350 if I remember correctly. Justin and JD what was the target range when you were in basic training?
  10. I'd fish a suspending Rogue, Football Jig and pig and 5 inch Chompers salty sinker. Also I've started using a home made Jika rig and I would give that a try and I'd also try slow rolling a spinner bait. In the winter I usually fish a lot slower and try to keep in contact with the bottom and I dead stick the salty sinker either texas rigged or wacky rigged.
  11. You don't seem to understand " If you value your life as much as I value my property don't f%#$ with my truck or house or any of my property. In my 71 years I have helped more than one person understand that. I don't consider myself tough or a "badass" just defending my space,
  12. The idea that smallmouth don't bite in cold water runs counter to fact. Smallmouth are caught through the ice as far north as Vermillion Bay, Ontario by guys fishing for walleye. The best fishing on Dale Hollow is usualy in Jan and Feb.
  13. When I lived in St Louis, I fished a few times each winter below the Chain Of Rocks bridge on the Illinois side. Caught mostly Sauger there in the winter only. The colder the weather the better the fishing. But you really have to want to catch those fish to put up with the cold. The walleye from the fiah market in U City tasted just as good and I didn't freeze my butt off. I would suggest you go over there in January and observe how those guys catch the fish and decide if you want to do it. I was never more than a novice fishing there and the best fishing was in freezing weather and you loose a lot of jigs and I don't reallycare to fish with live bait. If you do go there to fish DO NOT TRY TO WADE THAT RIVER more than one person has drowned there. Things might have changed since I left St Louis but I never saw anyone trying to catch walleye or sauger on the Mo side.A guy I worked with fished below the dams at Old Monroe and Winfield and that was productive for him but he had a huge river jon boat and if you dont a pretty big boat you can get in trouble on that river.
  14. Drew I have to agree with Fishinwrench I,ve been throwing Senkos for a long time and just use my worm rod an old 61/2 foot Quantum made in the USA medium heavy graphite casting rod and 6 foot medium Quantum made in America spinning rod for throwing a Senko wacky style. I actualy don't use Senkos anymore I use the chompers at least for the last 5 years they catch me more fish.
  15. F&F I guess you are a lot easier to get along with than I am, this makes me glad I stopped shooting dem ducks a loooong time ago. There is no way some one would run over my decoys if I,m holding my twice barrel shootgun I guarontee
  16. I pretty much wade fish year around. Nowadays it's the James here in Greene and Christian counties, Also I've been retired for almost 15 years so I usually only fish during the week now. When I lived in the St Louis area I usualy stayed around St louis and in the winter fished the Meramac in St Louis county the Big river down around St Francis State park or going a little farther down hwy 67 to the Castor at Marquand or Marble creek or The St Francis around Silver Mines, all those streams obviously needed enough water to make them worthwile. I forgot Joachim creek which is closer also and the Huzzah and Courtois. One thing to look for on streams are springs which usually are about the same temperature year around. I would usually stop fishing when I had a hard time catching fish and I never fished streams during the Closed Smallmouth season (we thought it was unethical).
  17. I have to agree with Drew, the only time to quit stream fishing is when it's too cold for me to be out there............................. unless my waders leak. But I do tend to throw Mepps type spinners or small Bettle Spin type lures or hair jigs, if the plastics are not producing.
  18. mic I fished it from the road above the shut ins to Tom Sauk in the 70's and 80's along with Marble creek and the St Francis below Silver Mines (hard to wade) but I prefered Castor River below Marquand Mo. I also fished the Big River around the state park. I stopped fishing there when I bought a piece of land on the Big Piney below Brushy Creek outside of Houston sold that when I moved to Arkansas. Back then (before otters) Piney was much better smallmouth and goggle eye fishing but I have not fished any of those since the mid 90s. East fork is worth it just for the red granite structure of the base but Smalliebigs is right that may be the slickest wadeing stream I have ever fished. I didn't see any cougars back in the 80s but I did survive a gang of nekked hippie chicks back in 84 and it actualy was rather enjoyable. The more I think about it, after growing older, they may have moved to Christian county and become the Cougars who hang out at Shelvin Rock who I described in a previous post how I barely escaped from with my ............
  19. Brian, I didn't know suckers ate Purina trout chow. If it wasn't for suckers in the Finley would there ever be Sucker Grabbin days and the duck race?
  20. Way back when, before bass boats and all of the electronics, I always carried binoculars to spot any surface disturbances whenever we would see birds on the water. I actually reached for mine the last time on the water ............when I got home I found they are now a backyard birwatching tool I have to get another.......It also lets you see what is on the docks
  21. Patrick, sorry I didn't follow up on your question. I just look at craigslist as a source for used boats and motors I haven't found what I wanted in a complete package most of the real good deals I have seen are more boat and horsepower than I want. If you lookat a used boat make sure the motor starts and runs. If someone has a boat for sale and they won't do that then I would walk away from it. I've been looking for a 14 ft jon with a quality trailer and I missed two boats by not finding out about them soon enough.
  22. Jack there's a used trolling motor on craigslist for $30. I don't think it's going to take much to push your Pack around. Make sure you get a quality deep cycle battery and a good charger.

I wish I was your age again and I wish you could have fished these Ozark strams 40 years ago it makes me happy to see other people enjoying rivers and thankfull that we were able to do our part to protect the rivers and my goal was to have my grandchiderns grandchildern enjoy the rivers as I did and you are.
  24. A lot of times fish can be in rapids but in those rapids they can be in slack water protected by the rocks that make up the rapids. When I bought my property on the Big Piney over the years I kept a journal on the fishing directly above and below Brushy Creek and I found that the higher the river level and the greater the flow the more quality fish would be in the rapids. As the river level dropped or in years when the river was low during the season the fish were more likely to be caught in the slower main pool around the big rocks or trees in the water. There was no science involved it was just were I found the fish. It also suprised me because I had belived that the opposite was true. After this experience I figured out that to be sucessful you really needed to fish with an open mind and let the fish tell you what they wanted. Also over the years on that part of the Piney 90% of my fishing was wade fishing and it was between Simmons Ford and Mineral Springs and other than my access it was all public access. I seldom fished much past the end of July and always had at least 3 weeks vacation starting the saturday after memorial day. Also this was done before the otters were put in the river.
  25. I'd be interested I have no idea what ones are safe to eat...........but would like to know.
