  1. My wife just walked in as I was looking at photo of the trout net and rod and she is normally not impressed with fish photos unless involving grandchildren. She belives that is one of the best she's ever seen and asked if you were going to sell copies of it.
  2. I was talking about the policy makers at the MDC. I have nothing but praise for the employees of the MDC who are some of the most overworked and underpaid people that I have ever met.
  3. Did anyone else see the photos taken yesterday at Lake Springfield in todays news leader? That guy is a lot tougher than I am.
  4. You are going to believe anything that the MDC tells you? These are the folks who returned River Otters to the big Piney river and then treated us, who thought it might not be a good idea to put a preadator which had been gone from the river for how many generations into a smallmouth stream,as though we were retarded. We were told we couldn't know anything about this because we were not professional wildlife managers. well they pissed me of enough that I got ahold of Tim Renken at the Post Dipatch and he wrote a few articles about it and then finally years later we find out we were right. Did the public ever get an apology? Now that I went on record that bringing Elk "back" to southeast Missouri might not be the best use of our resources once again I don't know what I am talking about. I don't care what they decide about the Lions but I believe what ever they do will be a political decision science and truth will have nothing to do with it. So go ahead and rip me if you want, I could be wrong.
  5. Yep, I got my first cell phone [a bag phone, because at that time hand held phones were unreliable] in 1997 after my heart attack which led to the early discovery of colon cancer, I realized that I was not imortal. I do not have it on when I'm in the boat or wadeing. I have just a basic Net 10 phone that cost me $16.05 a month that I bought in July 2007 works for me. I have used it to call home from Skagway, Ketchican, Seward in Alaska to Freeport, Maine on the east coast. I'm not into apps on a phone. I don't understand the attraction.
  6. Gary, you are showing your age. Differant priorities nowadays.
  7. He lived there by himself until he was in his 80s!
  8. Thanks for the tip. Does there UV boat repair and other products work as well?
  9. I had a lot of luck fishing shallow walleye with just a minnow on a hook in in Northwest Ontario and on Lake Catherine below Carpenter Dam and in the Ouchita River above and below the lakes and the upper Saline river in central Arkansas. If you use circle hooks the bass you catch can be released without harm.
  10. My comment was about making furled leaders, I have used them for the past year and they are great for bass flies and poppers.
  11. Try it let me know how it turns out. It was a total waste of time energy and acouple of bucks for me but unlike a lot of my projects it did not require a fire estinguisher, trip to the emergency room or visits to the chiropractor.
  12. In october I fell down a gravel slope gettig in the river and had anumber of small holes in my neoprene waders right over my wallet area. Pro Seal worked great. I got mine at BPS but I believe a lot of fly shops carry it or could sell you something better. Good luck.
  13. Are those red matzuo hooks?
  14. Thanks for the tip. I checked a few reviews and I am actually going to buy it unless there's not a big wait at the library. No I am going to buy it. My great grandfather, who passed away before I was born, was a commercial fisherman and market hunter and trapper in St Louis on the Missouri and Mississippi in the late 19th amd early 20th century. So anything I can read about the development of outdoor sports is of interest to me. I reaslly wish I had found out more about that time in history, The more I find out yhe more thankful I am for what we have today and the more I want to pass it on in better shape.
  15. I have started using EWG worm hooks about 5 years ago and think I Get a better hook set. Lately though I've gone to a light wire EWG which seems to be better and I haven't noticed any problem with hook strength. But I have to say the messler Eagle Claw hook was the best worm hook I ever used and if they would start making them again I would go back to them.
  16. Good luck, beautiful country never fished there the year I vacationed there we stopped at Gatlinburg on the way back and fished a straem in the National Park for trout and a stream at Severvile ? for smallmouth and then 3 days at Dale Hollow. I always wished we had taken the time to fish in North Carolina. Let us know how it turns out.
  17. Me to. Then when I reached for them, I would loose my cell phone and when I tried to catch the phone I would loose my balance and. You know the rest!
  18. I'm a bit older so Ian Fleming was a series I read as a 20 something. I guess I have read everything by Mark Twain and my wife gave me "The Autobiography of Mark Twain". I guess my favorite Twain book was "Roughing It". I was given "The Iliad" and "The Odessey" in 1952 by the Nun who was my 6th grade teacher, my first real grown up books and what a great adventure and literture, no more John Tunis books for me. I was pretty much a fan of popular novels "Caine Mutiny","Anatomy Of A Murder",but I also like Mickey Spillane and other pulp detectives. One advantage I've had is my wife was a librarian so anytime a new book was at the libray I got it first. Now that she's retired I've had to wait or buy it. I've read a lot of Pat Mcmanus "I Fish, Therefore I Am" etc. and James Lee Burke's books about New Iberia' LA police detective Dave Robicheau novels. The other books I have read recently are "59 In 84" about 19th century Hall Of Fame pitcher "Old Hoss" Rathbourne who won 59 games in 1884 but more a history of baseball at that time and " When the Mississippi Ran Backwards" by Feldman ahistory of America before during and after the New Madrid earthquake and how it effected everything from the War of 1812 to Steamboats on the Mississippi.
  19. I'm recovering from a mild case of pneumonia. I'd really be ticked off if the weather was warm and sunny. Really good looking spoons.
  20. Below Murray Lock and dam.
  21. Arkansas river at Norh Little Rock below the dam.
  22. I haven't used them but a few times this past spring and I'm satiafied with them. I only started using them because of arthritus in my fingers made retying a chore. But I've only used them with dry flies down to size 12. This year I only fly fished for bluegill. Has anyone used them with sall dries for trout.
  23. Tip, the Wife and I bring our felt soled wading boots inside so they are right at the front door this time of year have not had any trouble with icey driveway or steps since we started doing that over 20 years ago.
  24. Hey, that was only 40 years ago, oh that was a long time ago and I guess the worst part is that I wasn't a kid when I watched it.
