  1. For those that troll with large outboards, using a small drift sock on each side near the bow of the boat will let the outboard increase rpm's w/o increasing boat speed. It also gives better control in windy conditions.

    215 bridge

Pretty sure the 215 bridge is scheduled but the bridge to ruark bluff (highway H) is to be rebuilt in the future but don't know if it is scheduled yet. Check www.modot.org/sou..:
  3. While you are taking the detour, don't pass up Ken's Kafe at Hwy 39 and Y in Arcola. NO, I don't have a financial interest in the Kafe. I just enjoy the food.
  4. One thing to keep in mind when picking who to purchase from is that there is a significant amount of problems with new units and some retailers are easier to deal with than others when it comes to returning or replacing or repairing. Bass Pro is one of the best I have dealt with in this regard. Cabelas is also but they don't have a retail outlet near me. I did buy an Elite 5 more than a year ago and have had no problems and really like the down imaging.
  5. Southwest District Office: (417) 895-7600 August 13, 2015 Missouri Route 215 Bridge Over Stockton Lake to CLOSE Week of September 8 Cedar County - The Missouri Route 215 bridge over Stockton Lake south of Stockton in Cedar County will CLOSE to traffic starting Tuesday, September 8, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. The bridge will be closed until late May 2016 as contractor crews replace the driving surface or bridge deck. Drivers should follow the signed detour by taking Missouri Route 39 south at Route 215 (near Stockton) to Dade County Route Y at Arcola, then east on Route Y back to Route 215 to get around the bridge closing. Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing. The work is being done during the winter months at the request of the community to avoid the busy summer tourism season at Stockton Lake. Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule. Project background: Prime Contractor: Lehman Construction Co., California Completion Date: May 27, 2016 Total cost: $9.9 million RATE OUR WORK ZONE For more information, call MoDOT at 417-895-7600 or visit modot.org/southwest. 6. Fished next to lmt out for a couple of hrs Wed morning and sure nuf they were pulling them in one after the other while my fishing partner and I pulled in channel cat one after the other. We did get 5 eyes with 2 keepers in between cats. We told him we were channel cat fishing so we would look better. Good to meet you lmt out.
  7. Main lake at Y highway bridge was open. Turkey Creek cove off 215 was frozen as far as I could see from the highway. Haven't checked the ramps but if I were going to launch I would be sure to have a bag of salt with me.
  8. Someone tell me again why bass are so much more special than walleye, crappie, etc?
  9. There is a good population of spawn age females in Stockton who do their thing every spring but because walleye are not the dominate species the survival rate is very low consequently having a fishable walleye population depends on MDC's stocking of survivable size walleye which come from MDC hatcheries. MDC collects eggs from spawning females in Stockton and Bull Shoals and possibly some other lakes. This info came from a lecture from an MDC fisheries biologist a few years ago.
  10. Merry Christmas to everyone. May everyone have many fish dinners this year.
  11. While you are "Begging" MDC, ask them to raise the walleye length limit to 18. I also think raising the length on crappie to 11 is a fine idea. I rarely keep them under that length because of the smaller fillets. Neither will happen tho since MDC can't comprehend the fact that there will be just as many fish taken at the longer limits as there will at the shorter limits.
  12. Many a time I have had problems or disagreements with MDC but I have hunted and fished in many states and I would not trade Missouri for any of them. Don't think these bills will go anywhere.
  13. The placement of the transducer in relationship to water interference is important to get a clear sonar picture. The books are not very clear on this so if you haven't done this before you might want to enlist someone who has.
  14. ten, I did mean unmarked to mean without a green sign. I have never checked all the others I watched them put in with their website. Could be that they are all on the website. Like you said there is no lack of brushpiles to fish.
  15. A lot of unmarked brushpiles were put in by MDC or COE or a combination of the two using a pontoon boat that dumps bundles. Either 2 0r 3 years ago they hauled out of Mutton north for at least a couple of weeks creating unmarked brush piles all over the Big Sac arm. They now have some excellant habitat and crankbait catchers. Yesterday afternoon the crappie were bitng near Mutton in anywhere from 30 to 60' depending on where the shad happened to be and they were close to one of those unmarked brushpiles.
  16. Gridlock and shutdowns are the best thing that can happen to the federal government. The less they do the better off all citzens are. The Rep's funded everything even obama care but demanded that the individual mandate be put off until 2015 like obama gave all businesses and demaded that congress and thier staff not be given taxpaper funded subsidies that the rest of us do not get. The dem's said they wanted the subsidies and to hell with us individuals (we are not the big donars that businesses are).
  17. According to the local newspaper, 5 COE employees have been furloughed from the Stockton office. Probably no one working at the COE office to hand out tickets or tow vehicles.
  18. The osage between Bagnell Dam and the Missouri river. Good population of walleye.
  19. I live in Dade County and have a lot of first hand experience with the LE. You would have been wasting your time calling them. Unless you are holding the man at gunpoint they would have had absolutely no interest. There will be a new sheriff on Jan 1 and hopefully a more proffessional department.

    Walleye

PD is the man when it comes to jiggning raps! He got me started using them and it is now my favorite form of fishing. I do use mostly #9s tho.
  21. You might get by with just labeling the worm cartons but after a loose top and many crawlers throughout the fridge my wife somewhat insisted on a completely separate fridge. Very good article.
  22. Mountian lions in Mo are a great thing in my book, but if MDC wants any cooperation with their MLRT they need to change personnel or the guidelines they work under. My experience has found them to be consitently rude and arrogant both times I have dealt with them.

  24. I have a lot of years and experiences behind me which has allowed me to accumulate some wisdom in terms of survival. Never have I met a smart person who did not try to anticipate the future and prepare for it. Those who do not prepare sometimes survive anyway and get to remember the experience as an education. Some just don't survive. I have always prefered to survive. Those who have the responsibility to care for others such as children and don't prepare and do experience tragedy that they could have prevented will get to live with guilt and regret. Carrying a gun responsibly is one thing that can be done to prepare for the future. I am able to write this because I was carrying and yes ness and wrench once it occurred while I was fishing by myself in a boat on an almost secluded lake in missouri.
  25. I can understand muskie and smallmouth but not wipers. Missouri has stocked them so thick in some lakes the lure can't get past them to the other fish. What is the reasoning for the wiper in this list?
