  1. We had a tough time finishing birds yesterday but, saw lots of ducks. A SE wind is never the best for us. Started off this morning with woodies and ended with mallards and gadwall. Cold front today had the ducks on the move in my neck of the woods. We saw lots of birds moving down the river after the wind shifted to the north. If work would cooperate , I'd be out in the AM.
  2. X2 Give them a call and ask questions before you head down. I've always found the agents helpful in getting you pointed in the right direction at most of the duck parks.
  3. I can't take all the credit. The weather and ducks certainly cooperated and he made a perfect shot at his mallard. We broke three ducks off a larger group on their first pass and they were hanging with their wings cupped and feet down 20-25yds in front of the blind. I was surprised at how many mallards were in the area; cold weather definitely has them moving. We had lots woodies and mallards work us and a group of shovelers, too. Can't wait for next weekend!
  4. My nephew got his first Duck! We had plenty of activity and he had an absolute blast. I couldn't be prouder of how he handled himself in and around the blind.
  5. Going to take my nephew this weekend for his first duck hunt! Saw plenty of ducks moving around yesterday while out setting dekes and touching up the blind. Mostly woodies with a few gadwall and teal. Why MDC shifted the north zone dates a week later is beyond me. We are usually iced out by the second week of Dec. Although, it does mean more ducks for my nephew this weekend on youth hunt!
  6. Crossed the 44 bridge in fenton on Wednesday and noticed a bunch of white stakes up river. My wife just asked me about them, said she noticed them Monday on her way to work. In my limited view at 60+mph it seemed the were evenly spaced in two rows all the way across (wife says one row). Anyone know whats going on?
  7. Tough time on the lower this morning as well. Fished from Valley Park to Eureka and the only bite I could find was one dumb drum.
  8. Nice work! Looks like you've been whackin them! I've been too busy with work to get out and its killing me. Thanks for giving me something to day dream about.
  9. Meeting was on Friday. I was unable to attend due to work. Anybody have any info on what MSD had to say?
  10. Anybody know what is going to take so long to get the plant back online? I understand the flooding was worse, but the VP plant was partially treating within a week and fully operational in less that a month.
  11. American Water has an water intake just across the river from the output for MSD's fenton plant. Yum. I heard today it was going to be up to 3 months before they get the plant back online??
  12. When you purchase a duck stamp from a vendor other than the USPS it is the same as purchasing the stamp online and you are charged an extra $3.50? for the convenience of having to wait two weeks for it to arrive. I had to purchase my migratory bird online this year and was charged an additional $1.00 convenience fee. Will MDC continue to charge the convenience fee when a license is purchased through a vendor, too?
  13. With all the spots that size overrunning the river, I've been wanting to do that. It just seems like every time I'm able to get out, cleaning the fish and live well would cut into the limited time I've got available for fishing.
  14. Those are some quality whites, Smalliebigs! I usually put in at Allenton when fishing from the Big up to the Palisades. It may only be my perception, but, there seems to be less riff-raff hanging around down there. Love to fish that section in the summer after a rain; a little bit of mud in the water with a rise seems to really turn on the brown fish.
  15. We were up on the Mississippi as the front was moving in. I heard some reports similar to yours from Illinois last weekend. I'm sure my wife is looking forward to getting the duck calls out of the house and in to the blind.
  16. Not the best, but, here's a few from the lower Big.
  17. Anybody on here hunt the north zone for ducks? We were out yesterday setting dekes and touching up our brush. Saw lots of woodies and even some big ducks. Can't wait for next weekend!
  18. Forgive my ingnorance, but what is MDC's stance on stripers and wipers? I know that they have stocked both species in impoundments over the years. It is my understanding that the hybridization of whites and stripers can and does occur naturally. I catch both stripers and whites in the meramec so, why shouldn't I expect to catch wipers as well?
  19. Haven't been to allenton for a couple months, been fishing down river when I've had the time to get out.. did they get that bridge finished up?
  20. If you don't want to wait for the George Winter to open, Meramec Marina has a ramp on the other side of the river. Careful at any of the ramps, water is low and you will be at the end of the ramp when launching.
  21. I run a 1752 blazer with a 60/40 4-stroke merc and a 24v TM. I have a 12" extension on the front deck that the TM batteries are tucked under. Between the batteries and the TM I've got too much weight in the bow. I had a 12v TM setup the same way weight distribution was much better, maybe even a tad light up front. Might post over in the jet section of tinboats.net as well.
  22. Work finally cooperated enough for me to get out and fish for a few hours this morning. Caught some Whites, Wipers, Spots, and even a couple Smallies. Most were in the heads of riffles or the water just above them.
  23. Nice job! Tried to get out this past week to see what the whites were doing but couldn't get work to cooperate.
  24. Fished above the Big yesterday morning and caught a few. Most fish aggresive and in the riffles. Water temp was 85, rising and stained.
  25. Shad were really balled up thick. Probably caught/snagged 20+ between the two of us.
