  1. For Christmas we cooked a duck on the rotisserie with a drip pan to catch the fat which was used for the roasted potatoe.
  2. We picked this up last week and the dealer tried to sell us every aftermarket option under the sun, including a protectant designed to keep the boat "looking new for five years". We did not buy it, but it did make me think, is there a good aftermarket carpet protectant that you would recommend?
  3. Looks great! Did you process the jars after you filled them? If so, how long and was it a water bath or pressure cooker?
  4. NICE! Reminds me of my old Scout II (Rust II)
  5. Nice to know there is another person from Springfield, IL on this site. Charlie
  6. We tore down Gitmo this weekend because the posts were rotting and before I replace the barbwire monstrosity (8 ft tall with three rows of barb wire), what are you using to keep deer out (shooting and concertina wire are not an option). If possible I'd like to make something that does not look like a prison but is affordable. Any suggestions?
  7. Nice spring weather? Not here!

    2013 Garden

One week later and I already have one legged children to take care of. We built a greenhouse last year (unheated), so when it warms up enough to put the plants in it they should really take off.

Starting seeds is becoming a ritual...a right of passage into spring.

    2013 Garden

Every year at this time of year I get my hopes up that it will be a great growing season. Last year was so dry even the weeds wouldn't grow. Hopefully this year will be better... There I go again...

Anyone start their seeds yet? Most of you probably started them weeks ago, but here in central Illinois yesterday was my seed starting day. Yea, spring is just around the corner!
  12. I second the pocket system, combined with glue in the joint, you have a very strong joint.
  13. Bee Burka?
  14. Makes me want to get in the car and start driving.
  15. My wife and I are still in the negotiating stage and she is ever so lightly leaning towards giving it a try. So I may just make a reservation at Montauk for this spring. If she doesn't come I'm sure my buddy will.
  16. After paying for repairs on a 4-stroke I would prefer a 2-stroke that costs a lot less to fix.
  17. Why? I'd much prefer a 2-stroke to my 4.
  18. And now, the rest of the story... Turns out the fuel pump died. The mechanic called me with good news and bad news. The good news was that the engine was still under warranty; the bad news was that the fuel pump was not covered. If I had purchased the higher level of coverage it would of been covered. If I could of reached through the phone at that moment... Turns out the mechanic talked them into covering the pump. So $500+ in my pocket. Now the real question, why did it fail? The dealership thought it might because I used gas with ethanol, is this true? Does a gasoline ethanol blend cause a failure like this? We did not use the boat much this year because of the heat, so I'm wondering if I should of run it more to keep parts from drying out, if that was a contributing factor. Any thoughts? Charlie
  19. JD, great report, wish Ihad been there.
  20. FW, thanks I'll be calling the dealer today.
  21. FW not sure how to get all the air out, I looked on line but could not find detailed procedures. The kill switch is intact but I do not hear the fuel pump come on, and that has me worried.
  22. They opened one here in Springfield, IL and they are a step up from the other places. Prices are a bit higher but the customer service and the associates knowledge can't be beat. Definitely a good store to shop.
  23. Yesterday I went to take my pontoon boat out for the season, I got about 1,000 ft out and the outboard dies. Turns out the primer pump split and I ran out of gas. I replaced the primer pump but it still won't start. The motor is a 2008 25 hp 4 stroke Mercury, any ideas as to what the problem might be. It cranks but it doesn't even try to fire/catch. Thanks in advance. Charlie

    Tan Vat

I just found out that my business trip for next week will take me past Montauk, so I'm going to leave on Sunday and hit the Current River at Tan Vat for a few hours. I've fished the park before, and I am not opposed to that, but I've wanted to do Tan Vat south for some time. If anyone has an update on conditions and what flies are working I would appreciate it. - Charlie
  25. Nothing here and we need it bad!
