  1. There must be four or five chili dogs in that one... That's just a snack for you, Ronnie...
  2. Hmmmm.... Those hammerheads look very familiar to me...
  3. Yak... Roger Maler did a video on it. Several Fly Fishing clubs have a copy in their library. Not sure if it's out there otherwise, but I know the KC and Lawrence, KS clubs have a copy and I'm betting most FFF clubs do have it.
  4. I'm pretty much in agreement with F2F. I don't like anything above 703.5, but there is some fishing available if you are REALLY CAREFUL. We waded last night at 704.6, but only knee deep and that was only a few feet out. The water at that level is very swift and the fishing is tough. There was also a steady rise that went unnoticed for the most part until I checked my landmark and noticed it had gone up a couple of inches. I took to the bank after that. Optimum, up to 701. OK up to 703. Above that, be very careful and don't expect too much in the way of fish... Unless you're brave enough to risk your life and wade out far enough to get your fly in the middle. And I don't suggest that...
  5. For my two cents worth, this is one of the BEST reels for the money on the market... Best $100 you'll ever spend on a fly reel...
  6. Stooooopid stooopid stooopid... Now that I've got that out of my system.... Did you go to Control Panel and to Add/Remove Programs and try to find the program there to uninstall it? Is it in your start menu? I'm assuming this is a PC and not a Mac... Of course if it was a Mac, you'd not have this problem... or so they say... What browser are you using? And of course... Did you lose your keys in the process? You KNOW I couldn't resist that one... Oh... and by the way... No it wasn't stupid... Even the best get caught sometimes with these things...
  7. Keep May 22nd on your calendars, folks... We're having a benefit Tie-A-Thon and auction for Terry Tanner on that day. Terry's wife, if you don't know, has ALS or Lou Gherig's Disease. They've mounted a lot of medical bills and Terry came into Backcountry Outfitters to ask Tim and me if we would help him sell his fly stuff to pay the bills. Well, that ain't happ'nin' if we can help it. Terry's got tooooo many friends from all over the world and Tim and I have started putting together this benefit. I'll keep you informed on the event, but just know that we're going to sell chances for a pile of flies at $5 a chance. Due to not being able to find a venue for the event on May 8th, we've moved it out to May 22nd in Branson. This will be good for those of you in Arkansas who want to come up and is close enough for those in Springfield to go ahead and come. I'll post directions and such later. If you'd like to donate flies, auction items, or other, you can mail them to the shop. We have a bank account set up for the fund, and I set up a PayPal account soon so you can donate that way if you like. Just PayPal it to "tannerbeenfit@terrybeeson.net" and it will go into the bank account set up for Terry. Be sure to tell all your friends, too!!! If you are on Facebook, you can search for "Terry and Shirley Tanner Benefit Fund" and become a fan. 8. From talking to some of the guys at the ramp, the bite at Blunk was off from what it was, but fish were taken. I managed two hookups and lost one in the short time I was there, but did take this one. Didn't see anything huge, but did see a few nice stringers.
  9. I've got a feeling it is the first of many... Nice catch!!!
  10. I will confirm that SC is correct... It is built on the TFO Professional blank. Only difference is the PHW finish. Same price as a Professional as well. So if you have cast a Professional, you know what the PHW rod will be like. It's a very sweet rod for sure.
  11. It's a pretty good deal especially if there is a fly line included on the reel. The TFO Finesse series is designed for just what it says... Finesse fishing. Great for dries, terrestrials, and soft hackle fishing. Good nymphing rod. Not a great streamer rod, but then again it's a 3 wt... Cast the rod before you buy... But so far it sounds good.
  12. Nobody fishes there anymore... It's too crowded....
  13. I think it is a mortal sin not to release crickets... Cruel and inhumane... You should be strung up for keeping them... There... that should get things going.... Sounds like a good trip.
  14. From what I hear, crowded one day, deserted the next... Fishing has been "good" but nothing to write home about. Taney has been shutting down lately, so there's a chance at fishing there. Give Tim at Tim's Fly Shop a call on your way and see what it's like for the day. 417-847-4956 Come by BCO and see us while you're down this way dude...
  15. We are starting our fly tying classes at Fowkes Backcountry Outfitters tonight. If you are a beginner or know someone who wants to learn fly tying, come on by at 6pm. Jim Pesek will be conducting the class in our new seminar/tying room. We've got it all set up with a nice table and plenty of lighting. Bring your vise, tools, and material or pick it up at the shop. Those attending the class will get 10% off materials and tools tonight. If you would like to reserve the room for a tying session, let us know. It's free and a great place to hang out and tie. Call Tim or me at the shop and we'll set you up. More classes - beginner, intermediate, and advanced - will be coming soon. Also beginner fly fishing, fly casting, and other seminars. Remember the White Bass seminar with Bill Butts on March 27th!! Come on by and check things out!!!
  16. "MR." Brian Wise? Who is this "MR." of which you speak? Sorry I missed it, but good to have it on video. Of course, it would have been simpler to put the whole presentation into three words.... "Rubber Legged Stoneflies..." Thank you and good night...
  17. Good stuff... sounds like Taney was on fire last night.
  18. Snaggy, Click here for another map... Concentrate on Lassiter's, Dam 3, and Bayou accesses. Riverside is just around the corner from Bayou, so you can wade down to it. Depending on when you go, Many Islands et al can be crowded with campers. If you go during the canoe hatch season, hit Bayou in the morning until the first canoe hatch then move upstream to Lassiter then down to Dam 3 after the last canoe launch. Riverbend Restaurant for lunch and Fred's Fish House for dinner and your day is complete... (BTW... If Lacee is your waitress at Riverbend, leave a big tip... My grandbaby - her little girl - can use it... LOL)
  19. Take a trip over to Tom Hargrove's fly shop and he should have furled leaders. He can get you set up with everything you need...
  20. You were at the right placd for a lesson. There are several who know this, but Gary Flippin who runs Rim Shoals has it down to an art. I don't know of a chart, but if you fish there, find Gary and ask him when the water will change. He'll have it down to the minute... LOL
  21. I'll say that Jim would be a good source for sure. Didn't know he was still doing the classes. And he can help you with any rod building questions. I have a slick little 2 wt he built... VERY nice rod...
  22. 1. Find a local fly fishing club and go to a meeting or two. Get to know the members who can help you a lot!! 2. Find a local fly shop, go in and introduce yourself. 3. Use these two resources to learn to cast and fish. 4. Go fishing with a guide a time or two (unless you're fishing the parks.) They will give you the best advice on fishing local waters and help your fishing and casting. 5. STAY AWAY FROM WALMART for ANYthing fly fishing related. 6. Yes, they make XXXL waders. They even make 4XL in some models. 7. Work with your local fly shop on the best equipment for you - budget-wise as well as fishing-wise. They can get you into a good rod, reel, line, flies, etc. 8. Learn to tie your own flies. Nothin' like the feeling of catching a fish on a fly you tied yourself. 9. Attend local fly fishing events such as Sowbug Roundup, Tri-Lakes Expo, Conclave, etc. Welcome to the fly fishing world.
  23. Take a look at Korkers... Very popular out west and moving east...
  24. Alberto, While BassPro is a nice place to visit, it is still what we call a "big box store" and you may find it hard to get good advice on tackle from someone there. If you know what you want in advance, then you will do OK. Be sure to take your time to look around the store as there is a lot to see besides just the tackle and other merchandise. Plan on a meal at the bar in Hemingways to see the salt water aquarium. The museum will probably not be open while you are here. They are still working on it. But just walking around BP can take several hours to take it all in. While in town, go a few blocks south on Campbell and visit the guys at Fin and Feather. John and they guys there can give you good advice on the reel you are looking for. Not as big as BP, but a good atmosphere of anglers. Stop in next door to Backcountry Outfitters and say "hi" to us as well. We'll get you into REAL fishing - fly fishing that is...
