Hey flytyer57: I was just spoofing the simplicity of some the previous statements which imply that libs are all just looking for a handout and dont earn their way in life. I started working for a living and supporting a family at age 20, never bought a car or home that I couldnt afford, never owed anyone money without repaying it, always paid all of my taxes, raised a family and helped all of my kids through college, never received any entitlement payments that I didn't pay for in advance and worked 38 years before I retired. I as about as far from being conservative in my political leanings as anyone can get. Religious views are a different thing as I am very conservative in that respect. I actually agree with most of your previous statements on this subject and my previous reply was my sad attempt at satire. Now i am asking myself why I even post here since it always seems to be taken in the worst possible way. IT WAS A JOKE!!!

Wow I never cease to learn something about fishing when I read posts here. Now when I am fly fishing and I see someone approaching me I just ask how they voted last election. If they say democrat a wait for them to pass , If they say republician I just keep casting cause they will say passing by and walk by quietly like all conservatives do.

I have been thinking about one of those small infaltable boats for trips down. Oars maybe a trolling motor. Might be a good summer to try one. We have lots of small lakes near my home which dont allow motors in which it could be used also for a quick trip. Thanks for the heads up Phil and looking foward to the pics this afternoon. Thom

Lake 23 Largemouth And Cicadas
Thom replied to STL Matt's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
Going to head out tomorrow morning to 23 with new fly rod and give it a try. Thinking about gathering some real cicadas and using them. Hundreds in our caldesac. If not I have some foam flies to try. -
Wow ... great news ... I am planning on being down the week of July 18 and fishing Taney with my new bride. Last three days of our honeymoon. Hopefully it will offer the same opportunities for some catching if not fishing is always still fun. Thom

The best part of the whole situation is that Brent Frazee could not have had two finer gentlemen as well as knowledgeable fishermen and sportsmen to take him out to see the situation at the lake. Lots of just good folks in your neck of the woods .... to bad that the sensationist usually get the press releases with all of the "crap" instead of the facts that if you are knowledgeable enough and skilled enough there is seldom no such thing as a bad day on the water. Just days that you have to try harder and smarter and longer.

The ramp at short creek is private but cooper's creek should be open and is the closest mid stream access. Good fishing both upstream and downstream from there. I believe that the record Missouri rainbow was caught just down from coopers creek. You can get to fall creek road from either end of the lake and avoid lots of traffic and coopers creek is just off of fall creek road.

Rent a boat from Phil and you can still use power bait floating all the way to Branson. Also 1/8 ounce jigs anywhere floated under a bobber to bounce off the bottom or thrown 45 degrees downstream and slowly retreived with a spinning rod without a float. Let thee Jigs sink to the bottom. Sclupin/flesh, Sculpin, Green, white and black jigs or wolly buggers should also work. Check with Phils tackle shop when you rent the boat for method and/or what is working. Using a boat you can anchor and fish behing the Island at Point royalle and the Island just where fall creek comes in throwing into the seam and letting your lures float into the slower water. The fish stack up just behind the islands in the slower water. I will be down later in July (one leg of a honeymoon trip) for three days and hope to fish out of Phil's dock once or twice while there. tight lines Thom

"Both Fox News and MSNBC distort the truth to extreme levels to fit their politial agenda. Neither should be taken seriously." They are both entertainment channels. I have seen all of the old Archie Bunker episodes so it is nice to have a good political satire laugh even though neither of those channels intend it to be satire.

It is definately altered because two shots would not have killed him. He had neither a heart or a brain and those are the locations of the entry of those shots. We know that the whole episode was filmed in a movie set somewhere remote because FOX news has already proved thea the whole thing was staged. I know they are "looking out for us" and providing the truth.

Next time you have a thought Shaffer "let it go" There is a time and a place for thoughts like that. You didn't hate it enough

I think Phil is out of town but even though this is somewhat political I just see satire, a little playful joking back and forth, and opinions stated here ALL absent from personal attacks and name calling of each of the other posters. If these interesting threads remained as void of the above pitfalls I think there would be little or none of the red button finales.

My friend Jake caught this bass along with several others and some crappie in a farm pond a couple of days ago. As you can see it was on a rod and reel but I think that using a sculpin bounced across the bottom will produce some great action. Jake said that the fish were slulping lots of insects off the top also. Tight lines Thom

Phil Shuts Em Down When Conservatives Speak
Thom replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
OMG: I am agreeing with Trav I have known Phil or of him for at least 30 years. I have fished with him, talked to him about issues, stayed at his faciilites on and on and never seen anyting but an honest and fair gentleman. He always tries to be fair minded and respect others. I almost fellout of my chair when I read the premise of this thread. I can tell you that I have been gently and kindly reminded by Phil on ths forum to clean up my posts (far from conservative) . Just do it and the red button will never appear ... don't and it will it is that simple. It is his forum and he has that right and responsibility. If you just listen to the admins suggestions when it gets testy with language or personal attacts you will never see the RED BUTTON. If you don't you will and for good reason conservative or liberal or in between. Thom -
Muddy Cow Pond > Freestone Streams
Thom replied to Trout Commander's topic in General Angling Discussion
That is a keeper all right and the bluegill is nice too. be proud dad ... making memories that will never fade away. -
I am still looking up the word "vigotous". Not in my unabridged webster dictionary. neither is the "vigotous fish". Must be a mutation from radioactive seawater. I knew the term oncorhynchos mykiss however or to use the often used slang around Taney "Phesh"

Dano is that green wire on the midge body? What did you use for the neck hackle next to the bead. I am tyeing lots of different midge variations for my next trip with lots of scud variations size and color both. Btw is that a 2488bl hook or is the hook just not showing the barb in the photo.

To quote a line from an episode of Seinfied. From George's mother in law in regards to George's dad's comments about the difference between chickens roosters and hens "There is something missing all right"

JD hold onto your chair but I couldn't agree with you more. There should not be a fee to exercize our constitutional right to carry a legal weapon. I learned that my native state Illinois has a move to remove gun restrictions for right to carry. I support that also. Thom

Go to this link for several colors and versions. http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=39

These are the two flies I would definately try. They can be purchased at any of the fly shops nearby or easily tyed quickly. The upper is the zebra midge and the lower is the miracle I suggested. Use small version #18 zebra and smaller 18 or 20 miracle
-
I sent you a reply to your email at the new address. Midges, miracles (all colors) 2 ft under a the smallest float that you can use. Small 1/120 jigs, weighted egg flies, san jaun worms (all colors) if the water is moving slowly. If lots of water is moving go to heavier jigs or wolley buggers (1/8 oz) throwing upstream and ticking the bottom back you can also try to float them under a carrot float but keep them as close to the bottom as possible. Be sure to check out Lilley's to find the right colors and suggestions as to what to use. The shop there is current as to what to use and how to fish it. They are always quality flies and lures at the lowest prices you will find anywhere. When are you going to be at point royalle?

Phil Quote "I know the mindset . . . you want to get out where the fish are — where the big ones are. “They’re behind you!” First, it’s tough to fish when you can’t drop your arms below your armpits. Second, you are standing where you should be casting. When I fish the flats out of a boat, I set the boat in two feet or less of water and cast to the shallow side of the lake. There are dozens of trout feeding in less than two feet of water, where hardly anyone bothers them." Phil, I have noticed that same thing at point royale. Most are standing where I catch the most fish and just pushing them farther out or downstream. My best day at Bennet Springs was late fall near the gage tower below the spring. Usually there is 4 or 5 waiting for the whistle and wading in up to thir waist. This day it was only me and some lady standing there. I suggested to her that we just walk in to the stream ankle deep and try that before going in farther. She looked at me with a questioned face but agreed to try it. We slowly entered the water and caught fish after fish in the 2 foot of water and slow current. Wading in farther just chases them to the other side where the other slow drift and seam passed the shore but it is off limits to fisheng there and too far to throw from the other side. Thanks for the report and info.

It is catch and release only but a fun place to fish. Go to the pavillion and walk the path over to the bridge. fishing from the bridge will allow you to catch lots of bluegill and some nice bass. I usually go to the center of the bridge and fish from both sides. Putting lots of weight above hook will get you down deep faster and past the bait stealers. It is a great place to take small children for them to catch fish. Hooking a nice Bass is possible occasionally using small plugs and throwing jigs past the concentration of gills around the bridge. Lots of luck and tight lines.
