  2. Fishing is going to be good today on the upper end. I am going to try to catch some of those Hellbender eaters. Anyone else heading down?
  3. I dont know why someone would keep smallies, they arent that tasty. Maybe Phil could start the "keep 4" movement by taking one of the smallies off the logo stringer?
  4. Gonna check out some nature there Gavin?
  5. They trapped them in KY at a cost of 30 gs ea. The Eastern elk is what was native to MO and has been extinct since 1900 or so. KY AR and some other states introduced Rocky mt elk and that what we trapped. Look up elk for sale and you will see that they are alot cheaper that what MDC paid to introduce them at Peck.
  6. The Rocky mountain elk were never in Missouri. The MDC introduced a non- native speices at a cost of $30,000.00 a pop. Rocky mt elk could have been bought in MO. at around 3-4 grand each from private ranchers.
  7. I like the golds, too. I have a great garden spot at some property we bought from some amish folks. We closed too late last year to do potatoes. Think im goinig to try Yukons and reds this year. My sweet potatoes did real well last year.

  19. The forest visitor maps are upto date and show private property. The MTNF is a patchwork of parcels and you can end up on private property very easily. The road maps only show which roads are open to the public. The ONCRC in Salem http://oncrc.org/ has expired visitor maps free.
  20. They sell the maps at any of their offices. http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjAwhwtDDw9_AI8zPwhQoY6IeDdGCqCPOBqwDLG-AAjgb6fh75uan6BdnZaY6OiooA1tkqlQ!!/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfMjAwMDAwMDBBODBPSEhWTjBNMDAwMDAwMDA!/?ss=110905&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=FSE_003853&navid=091000000000000&pnavid=null&position=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&ttype=main&pname=Mark%20Twain%20National%20Forest-%20Home/
  21. Hey. Why not just stay at the motel in the park? You wont have an hr of driving. I believe they keep 9 units open(will open more if needed) and 14 cabins are open.
  22. http://stlbeacon.org/voices/blogs/political-blogs/beacon-backroom/114255-nixon-steps-into-county-parks-controversy Dont worry the State has excess park money to spend...
  23. Thanks for that link. Lots of good stuff in there. We see Hellbenders every so often while salvaging.
  24. Gavin mentioned estrogen as a suspected cause of the stress. Soy is a major ingredient of trout food. How have the management of the trout hatcheries changed in the last 20- 30 years changed? They put alot of different things in the runs to keep the trout healthy.
