  1. There is also a bunch of wild hogs that have moved into the area around Springfield Landing (where the docks are north of CC). As you approach Springfield Landing it turns to gravel and at the same time an olf logging road goes off to the right. Take that logging road to a gravel parking area. They work that area a lot.
  2. I tend to agree with the two previous posters. In the main lake as the water temperature drops below 65 F the crappie begin to move deeper and deeper along bluffs. Starting out around 25' and then slowly getting deeper as the water temp falls. In the main creek areas, like CC, they will run 10 to 15 feet during those times moving in tight to the banks at night when it is colder. Finally settling in as deep as they can along the deeper steep bluffs by winter.
  3. Didn't have a chance to fish but did manage to stop by a couple spots on the way home. Greenfield 71 F Ruark 74 F Water had good color in both locations.
  4. The wife and I have been catching from 6 to 14 Crappie each Sat for the last month putting in at Greenfield and working North. It has been tough though. There were so many boats in that area yesterday that I think I will move away from Greenfield to some other spot next weekend.
  5. God Bless your mom!! Tell her thanks. Will do.
  6. Well BF1, your mother is a better frontier's man (woman) than I am. I walked every trail (no trouble sleeping to night) and couldn't find but one Burr Oak. It was rotten and had been cut down about a year ago, Maybe that was the only one. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.
  7. Thanks Bigfishes1. Next stop the nature center. When you are talking about 'cave springs along the creek'. Are you talking about a specific place on the lake called Cave Springs or just in general. Appreciate the info very much.
  8. Well minnowhooker, I went behind the Walmart and sure enough there was the two Burr Oaks. Two problems...One does not have any acorns and the other problem-They cut the grass. The acorns on the ground look like they had been chewed on by a 500 lb squirrel!! lol I found several others today in some parks but they didn't have nuts. OH well, that's life.
  9. Thanks to both of you. It will be a trip to Walmarts on Campbell tomorrow!!!
  10. Does anyone know of any large Burr Oaks around the lake or in the nearby area. I would like to collect some of the nuts. Any help would be appreciated.
  11. Just a note to let you know that we stopped by CC (Greenfield Landing). Water temperature 74. Saw a couple small whites caught as well as a couple small crappie but not much doing.
  12. All I can say is you are right MOP. The data I posted is correct but the site prefixes should be ST, NOT Sm. So sorry for the confusion.
  13. No, if you check many of the lakes on the list have the same sampling point codes.
  14. Last month I posted some information from the Corp on Stockton's dissolved oxygen (DO) and thermocline depth from July. I promised that when Aug results were posted I would let you know what they are. You will note that has the heat continued the oxygen levels in the upper layers dropped and the thermocline raised closer to the surface. I wish I could tell you the locations of these samples but they no longer are available on the locations map except SM 7 which is the 245 bridge. Aug 3rd Depth D.O. July 13 SM 3 Surface 6.9 ppm 5.58 ppm 24 ft 2.45 ppm Thermocline 2.02 ppm (18 ft) SM 8 Surface 7.1 ppm 8.89 ppm 12 ft 1.17 ppm Thermocline 1.65 ppm (21 ft) SM 7 Surface 7.3 ppm 8.77 ppm 12 ft 2.43 ppm Thermocline 1.05 ppm (18 ft) SM 14 Surface 8.22 ppm 8.85 ppm 15 ft 0.29 ppm Thermocline 2.08 ppm (18 ft)
  15. The wife and I fished up around Shaw's Bluff on Monday. We managed to pick up 15 keepers before the wind blew us off the lake. They were on the first 2 brushpiles we tried. 10' Deep. Can't complain except my wife caught 11 of the 15. lol
  16. The wife and I have been catching 4 or 5 (total) during the day even in the hot weather. We fished 20 to 35' deep along steep rock banks and bluffs. Mostly mid lake.
  17. One meter equals about 3 feet. Yes the O2 levels have been slowly becoming a greater issue over the last 4 or 5 years due to rising nitrogen and phosphorus levels in the lake which fuel the massive algae growth and contribute to lack of O2. Yes you are right, the deeper it is to the thermocline the more fishable water there is because of higher oxygen above the thermocline. But higher is a very relevant thing. Those values of 8 to 9 ppm O2 above the thermocline supplies enough O2 for the fish BUT as the water heats the fish (being cold blooded) heat up as well and require more O2 to survive. What a lot of people don't realize is that for every increase of 20 degrees F the water holds about 40% less O2. those levels of 8 or 9 ppm in say June can become 4 or 5 by August. At those levels fish feeding drastically slows especially among the more active predatory fish. Lastly, I wish I could give you more up to date info but it is not available. The Conservation people depend on volunteers for much of their sampling and have trouble getting all the samples pulled. If they post Aug numbers later I will let you know what they are.
  18. The last water sampling for the corp was on July 18th. Dissolved O2 at the dam was 8.22 at 8 meters and 1.73 at 9 meters (thermocline). At the 245 bridge it was 4.72 at 4 meters (start of thermocline) 2.38 at 5 meters 1.98 at 6 meters Near Chicken Rock (Point B9) 4.85 at 4 meters 0.66 at 5 meters One thing we all know, there was a lot 0f hot weather after that and along with increased algae growth it sure didn't get any better!!
  19. The wife and I have been able to pick up 6 to 8 keepers each of the last two Sat. I was fishing the Big Sac Arm. I ran my thermometer down to 30' (bottom) and still no thermocline. The keepers were coming on windy banks in 12 to 16' of water. There is a tremendous algae bloom in the area and we saw a minor fish kill both days. Maybe 30 to 50 dead fish. All with their gills flared. Mostly bass, crappie, shad and other O2 loving species. 85 degrees on surface and 80 degrees at 30'. Can't be much oxygen available like that. Visibility 3'.
  20. One thing about it, you will be with the ultimate Fisherman. God Bless
  21. Phil My deepest appreciation for sharing this tragic news. SRJ represented the fisherman well and was a gentleman on this site. I know that I will certainly miss his postings and advice. May God comfort his family in their time of loss. He will be missed.
  22. I use to fish for them with rod and reel on Stockton. I did day time fishing only as I figured once God turned out the lights it was time for bed. lol I used mostly live bluegill or big shiners. My best was a 35 lber. Not bad for day time.
  23. I remember that hair style. Hopalong Cassidy, etc.... Sorry if I spelled your name wrong Mr. Cassidy!! lol
  24. No spoonbill nxs! Sorry You will have to buy your cavier!! lol
  25. Were there any external wounds to match those spots or were they evident on the inside only?
