I’m snickering at my 10 year old daughter for liking these...then I tried them, they are darn good.

I mean I agree with some of it concerning being a well rounded student, but in my opinion they have taken it way too far.

They do extensive research. You have to do an essay, They look up to see what activities you were involved in. They deem certain activities “Asian Activities” like being in an orchestra, Believe it or not! we hired a tutor to help us through this process. She claimed that GPA , ACT scores, and financial backing mean nothing anymore when an Asian student is involved. My step daughter is full Chinese, born in the USA but went back to China until she was 3, then came back over. Her name obviously is a Chinese name. She is an example of an American born Chinese. There are also huge amounts of Chinese foreign students with fantastic ACT scores and huge financial backing that get turned away at a very high percentage from Ivy League schools. Entry into Ivy League schools has now changed to “An average of the total picture” to offset the higher percentage of Asians and Indian students with outstanding academic achievements.

This is another example of attempting to make things equal and actually hosing everyone else who did the right thing. So where is the incentive for a guy to struggle and save his whole life? its gone forever. Whether I go to the college of my choice, or buy the dream house I want, should depend on how much can I afford, AND (not or) how good your grades/scores are. Like I've always believed, if you try to make things equal, someone else get screwed. I understand life isn't fair. I realize that it isn't fair that LeBron makes 20 times more than Dr. Ben Carson, the world renowned brain surgeon, but I know its the way this country was founded. It also isn't fair that my wife's Chinese relatives are being discriminated against by being refused entrance in many top scale universities even though their scores are far superior (and have the money I might add) to the same students who make it in. Pure racial discrimination.

Not to start another controversy....sorry @rps. I have a bit of a problem with the way these Scholarships are handed out. I know someone who’s close to me that their child received a full ride to Washington University because her grades were great but her families income was in the poverty range. The dad was a pizza delivery guy his whole life. The mom was a part time teacher. Good for them right? well, what about the parents who worked their butts off and the kids have the same GPA and test scores? The father saves 150-200K for his girl to go to the exact same school. tell me what is fair??

Honestly I’m lazy about following up on charitable contributions. I give to my church and occasionally Danny Thomas children’s hospital but I really need to check out where the money goes I give to the church...besides the normal electric bill stuff. We should give individually and not depend solely on the Gubment to take care of everyone.

They are actually in Hunan and they are all doing well the last time time I discussed with my wife, which was about a week ago.
