As long as the hooks don't interfere with each other on a crankbait, you can get by with long shanks. One advantage to a short shank is you can go to a bigger size hook and still not interfere in some cases. As far as round bend verses EWG, I guess its a matter of confidence.

Brand new from Gamakatsu, I've been waiting for these to come out in EWG's. The short shank magic eye was only manufactured in round bend until now. The magic eye allows you to change out hooks without split ring pliers. Don't want to hijajck this thread but: A friend told me that a Pulaski County gigging check point caught 3 boats Saturday night with 337 suckers over the limit with 1 walleye. A little effort makes a difference....maybe word will get out in the gigging community that they better have 1 eye in the back of their head while poaching. Those are nice! I must admit I do not have a survival kit other than a first aid kit that used to be in my car. It may not be there anymore. Reminds me of a story regarding my buddy who is always ultra prepared. He rigged a generator to his house in case the power ever went out. After a couple years the power finally went off after an ice storm or something and he went downstairs to fire up the generator. Well it seems the generator had a short and blew up every high priced electronic piece that he owned.

They do make some good craft hair nowadays but there is something about the action of real hair or fur. I suppose the reason is that each individual hair is tapered, unlike a synthetic. I must admit I'm a bit of a softy regarding raising animals on a game farm for their fur only. That's why I would rather see an who's meat is harvested along with their fur. Although my favorite fur is either raccoon or arctic fox and there aren't many people eating those two animals!

Well the pick looks less like a spotted bass than any spot I've ever seen. Looks like he's been hanging out in a dark cave for a couple of years...or it's a picture of a fingerling.

2. Don't forget about the front of the rootwad also in the "push" area. The fish can be anywhere in a rootwad. 3. If fish are in the tail out they are actively feeding. I would make my firt cast right down the middle in the "V" and work your way back up stream. If you are off left to right it doesnt matter, the fish are active and will come over to get it. Fish the all the way back to the canoe or boat, depth of water doesnt matter within reason, you can catch a big fish in less than a foot of water. 4. In the colder water you dont want to move a bunch of water, thats when hair out performs standard. In the summer he's probably correct. But in all cases let the fish let you know which they prefer that particular day.
