  1. For reference only: Are you still working in the same field in which you received your degree?
  2. This is a pretty decent article http://scout.com/outdoors/bass-fishing/Article/5-Keys-to-Catching-River-Current-Smallmouths-101451633
  3. I guess if you start in a canoe, you'll stay there, and same with a bass boat. I do know I used to be a tandem canoe guy but ever since I got a jet boat, I never looked back. But I realize that the only way to fish in non pressured water is either wading or canoeing.
  4. Seth tickles the bass with pink worms... and tickles his toes with the bass from the speakers
  5. Shade is always my casting target
  6. The straight line distance to the fish is the same if you throw your spook directly over a fishes head in 5 FOW, or throw it 5 ft away from the in 1 FOW. The difference is, they should be able to have a clearer picture of the lure form down deep, as Al says. I was blown away up on the Upper Mississippi how fast they could close the gap and get to my topwater from 5 feet away. It was a total reaction bite. But when I dropped one on their head you could see the wake from them being spooked. I think the key to getting bit is the fish reacting without ever getting a good look when you're fishing topwater. As far as colors Daryk, I very knowledgeable friend gave me this advice on topwater. Use white all summer then switch to broomstick brown in the fall. I've found that all colors work pretty well on topwater if your making enough ruckus. When you're twitch-twitch wait type topwater fishing, maybe the color means a little more.
  7. Don't know where you're storing it but make sure there is no way rain drops can make its way into your gas tank. Also, just thinking out loud, is your 60/40 a 4 stroke? If it weighs significantly more than a 2 stroke you might want to add the batteries up front to balance out the weight. I'd like to see your Rig! 👍
  8. Yep, Spoondog is able to articulate his position very well, he adds quite a bit to this forum.
  9. Thanks for doing this Tim! Good job
  10. Great thoughts... I know that fish in a shallow riffle are there for one reason only. They are less spooky, and will come from a greater distance to attack their prey or your lure. I've also many times, as you say, had worse luck after the riffle turns into a deep hole. The cone of sight you described makes a lot of sense.
  11. This fight is pure PT Barnum. A bunch of craziness in this world right now. Facebook is lit up with this fight.... we'll know soon
  12. Pete will be THE guy on the middle/lower Meramec now! Can't wait to see his first pic of a 20" Smallmouth!
  13. Congratulations Pete!!
  14. I think you both are living the dream! The rest of us can just sit behind the keyboard.
  15. Excellent report! Al, I finally switched to bigger diameter line several years ago.
  16. Or maybe your future son in law? 😋😋
  17. I think we are just joking, I work with flat bills, tattoos, and piercings every day.....some of the best people around!!
  18. Well, he's a fly fisherman who fishes for carp....case closed
  19. Awesome report and pics Mike! you St. Peter's guys really stick together! 😂
  20. I can't stand to hear those loud V8's on the rivers the size of the Meramec.
  21. I think you'll have to agree that free speech isn't so free anymore. If your speech gets put into a classification of hate speech...you're banned from speaking. The definition of hate speech keeps being changed everyday.
  22. A few things I took from your post. Colleges are overwhelmingly liberal..agreed. Kids learn critical thinking and are exposed to kids of different socioeconomic backgrounds....agreed, but 40k a year to learn this is certainly no bang for the buck. Choosing your child's path because you don't trust them to make a decision in their best interest...... Ok, at 40k a year, I won't sit back and let them choose a useless degree choice. If that makes me a helicopter parent then ok, I'm fine with that. They pretty much have zero experience in this area. Hopefully all the training you've given them has helped a little. Maybe they should be working a wage gig, as you suggest, DURING high school. When you work at Burger King, the customer comes first. It's most certainly all about pleasing someone other than yourself. There are no safe places to go to, no trigger warnings, No micro aggression classification for words. Just do your job. We've been raising kids with self esteem that's way too high.
  23. Here's our new commercial....Thanks Bret!
  24. No big heavyweights on the horizon that I know of, but the real megabout thats coming up is Alverez vs GGG. GGG is a heavy hitter for sure...that's the only PPView I would buy.
