  1. As long as the hooks don't interfere with each other on a crankbait, you can get by with long shanks. One advantage to a short shank is you can go to a bigger size hook and still not interfere in some cases. As far as round bend verses EWG, I guess its a matter of confidence.
  2. Brand new from Gamakatsu, I've been waiting for these to come out in EWG's. The short shank magic eye was only manufactured in round bend until now. The magic eye allows you to change out hooks without split ring pliers. I think these will outlast the KVD's http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_EWG_Treble_Short_Shank_2X_Magic_Eye_6pk/descpage-GETX.html
  3. I used to shoot a recurve bow when deer hunting for the same reason. Not as productive as a compound but more fun.
  4. Dont care if you believe it or not, It's real. We don't make this stuff up, we have seen it ourselves. One boat can kill dozens of 10 year old bass in one night. We find the filleted dead bass bodies on the river. We see gig marks of the lucky ones, they get away with gig marks that happen to occur the week after gigging season started. Yeah, like a spontaneous attack on an embassy on Sept 11th! The wintering holes that once held huge numbers of large bass are void of bass trip after trip. Don't listen listen to us Cheif, listen to someone 200 miles away with an opinion.
  5. Arguing with you is pointless. Illegal gigging of smallmouth happens to a point that would make all on this forum sick. Only the big fish are taken, leaving only the evidence of a carcass that will be gone soon. Since only a handful on this forum fish in the winter with jet boats, they will never see the reality. If you dont believe there is a problem you simply don't know jack dung, period!
  6. Don't want to hijajck this thread but: A friend told me that a Pulaski County gigging check point caught 3 boats Saturday night with 337 suckers over the limit with 1 walleye. A little effort makes a difference....maybe word will get out in the gigging community that they better have 1 eye in the back of their head while poaching. Now if the prosecutor will just do his job..................
  7. Funny! What's the difference between Paula Deen and a long walk in the woods? .....the long walk in the woods is considered a "Pant in the country"
  8. There's no conspiracy, it's agenda driven on both sides. Time to admit it
  9. Up way over Scott's Ford bridge. Won't be fishable for a few days!
  10. Those are nice! I must admit I do not have a survival kit other than a first aid kit that used to be in my car. It may not be there anymore. Reminds me of a story regarding my buddy who is always ultra prepared. He rigged a generator to his house in case the power ever went out. After a couple years the power finally went off after an ice storm or something and he went downstairs to fire up the generator. Well it seems the generator had a short and blew up every high priced electronic piece that he owned.
  11. Well it was a perfect day for it. Tomorrow will be good as well!
  12. Paul used to keep the Poosotania docked over at Pontoon Beach, we had to help him get it up on rollers to reach the diversion channel around Chain of Rocks. Those were the days!!
  13. Way to go Dylan!!! Fish porn on Sunday? Sounds immodest
  14. I will neither confirm nor deny
  15. Here is a 17" spot from an un-named river in an un-named county, I refused to commit to the date that this fish was or was not harvested. Any subject or subject's legally acceptable represenitive for the purposes of obtaining this photo should apply with written consent in duplicate form. The owner and or representitive of this photo should be informed in a timely manner if new information and/or photos related to said photo become available that may be relevant to the subjects willingness to continue participation in this thread. How's that Hoglaw? Spots can be fun when they get this big and can sometimes keep you from having a bad day fishing.
  16. You might find out that you were actually destined to be one of those Ted Nugent gun toter types, or possibly Richard Simmons' soul mate....be careful what you wish for!
  17. Both are awesome rivers, fished the Menominee 3 times, great river
  18. For lake fishing you can also consider Burt and Mullet lakes in Michigan for huge lake Smallies
  19. You could try "MonsterSmallmouth.com"
  20. They do make some good craft hair nowadays but there is something about the action of real hair or fur. I suppose the reason is that each individual hair is tapered, unlike a synthetic. I must admit I'm a bit of a softy regarding raising animals on a game farm for their fur only. That's why I would rather see an who's meat is harvested along with their fur. Although my favorite fur is either raccoon or arctic fox and there aren't many people eating those two animals!
  21. Great looking bait as usual, if you take away the bars on the side it looks like my favorite color fluke...Arkansas shiner
  22. No worries Joe, this would be a darn boring forum without some good lively chatter
  23. Well the pick looks less like a spotted bass than any spot I've ever seen. Looks like he's been hanging out in a dark cave for a couple of years...or it's a picture of a fingerling.
  24. 2. Don't forget about the front of the rootwad also in the "push" area. The fish can be anywhere in a rootwad. 3. If fish are in the tail out they are actively feeding. I would make my firt cast right down the middle in the "V" and work your way back up stream. If you are off left to right it doesnt matter, the fish are active and will come over to get it. Fish the all the way back to the canoe or boat, depth of water doesnt matter within reason, you can catch a big fish in less than a foot of water. 4. In the colder water you dont want to move a bunch of water, thats when hair out performs standard. In the summer he's probably correct. But in all cases let the fish let you know which they prefer that particular day.
