Welcome aboard!

I'd definitely try to make this. Sounds fun, I always like fishing "Big fish" tourneys anyways.(you always feel like your one cast away from winning)

I fish with a Bass Club out of Gainesville, mo, and we had a PRADCO rep come to show us new product at our last meeting. One of our club members owns a local tackle shop so he brings them in every year to speak and do their schpeel about new products. Anyways, towards the end of the meeting we got to talking about wiggle warts. He said that they haven't made any press releases and its still in the trial stages but the company had approached David Fritts about producing a hardbait that would work in same areas and with the same effectiveness as the Warts. He said Fritts has been working on it for about two years now and he'd seen them in person and raved about them. He didn't have any to show us the other day, but he made the claim - you'll stop throwing your old warts after these come out, even the pre raps. He said their target date for release was around 9/15. Take it for what its worth of course...

Those are some nice chunks! Kudos to you. I don't know that I have the patience to fish the same bluff for the whole day. Persistence pays off.

Don't stop there!!! How does one modify a rogue!?!

I've been keeping a detailed fishing log on an excel spreadsheet for the last 10 years. I have looked into some of the commercially available fishing logs from websites but none have had all the data points I wanted and most were difficult and timely to navigate. I couldnt agree more about the minimal user imput. The more that can be auto filled by the app the better and easier it will appear. Here is what I thought would help. If the app could pull weather data from one of the major weather apps (weather.com/accuweather) from the closest location available to you. Also sync and load the lake level and fluctuation as mentioned. Sync with your phones camera function so you could easily add in a picture of a lure/piece of cover/or fish to go back and reference at a later date. Sync the app with depth/location data from navionics app. The big downfall to the apps on a phone compared to a computer is it is much more tedious to add data with a phone keyboard than a traditional desktop and keyboard. To counter act this I would think redundancy in data entry should be minimized. For example if someone is fishing with a 3/8 ounce white/chart spinnerbait and enters that information in once, the next time someone enters "spinner" it would provide the option to auto fill all the additional data used from previous entries. This would be especially helpful as anglers are creatures of habit and I often use the same lure through out the year at different times. The best time for me to record data is immediately before and after the trip. It would be cool if you started the app when you pulled into the boat ramp. When it opened it asked you a short series of questions about the conditions and provided you options to click instead of having to manually enter it on a keyboard. These would be questions like water clarity, watertemp, boat traffic, etc. Then a similar series of questions when you left the lake. This would show the changes that occured through out the day. As mentioned above, the greatest benefit to me would be the ability to sync it with a computer based program on a desktop much like iphone syncs with itunes on a computer or tablet. This would allow all the data to be easily retrieved and viewed at a later date. This would all be a ton of work I'm sure haha but hey, you asked!

No way to difinitivly say how much specific colors matter to bass but I can say with certainty Tim paints some great looking baits as I just got back 3 old warts he brought new life too.

These reports are awesome! Love the video too. Just the proof I needed to keep fishing brushpiles haha! -
Thanks for the report! From driving over the bridge it looks like most of the bank brush is back out of the water.
-
Not really. bunch of shad up there though.

Glad you had a good day, thanks for the report!

Put in around 7 fished til Noon. First day of the big cold front. Water temps were down in the mid to low 70s. Couple of shorts on a squarebill crankbait. Caught 5 flipping laydowns and bushes shallow. Beaver style baits seemed to produce best. No big fish. Quite a few boats out considering it was a week day. Usually I fish the main lake but I enjoyed switching it up as that far up the river is totally different than the majority of norfork.

Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the report. Was there emergent grass that you could throw a frog in or was it all mostly below the surface? What kind of water temps did you run into?
-
Howd it go? I'm curious to hear how you do as I've talked about making a trip down there a few times as well.
-
Thanks for the report! Makes you wonder if those Largemouth stay there through out the day and take up residency in the bushes or just hang out in the bushes til the sun gets up and then head out deep.

Apparently Pete caught them good the other day fishing 12-15' on a big worm ledge fishing. He mentions it about 3 quarters of the way through the report FYI.

Nothing more aggravating than someone stealing your marker buoy. I've tried a couple tactics. The first was I spray painted all of my markers buoys blue so they blend in with the water making them harder for passerby's to spot. I then took a permanent marker and wrote on them all "This marker buoy is not abandoned, please don't be a cheap *** and steal another guys marker buoy" I've yet to have any stolen since I tried these adjustments. Though I have learned to never leave them out of sight for long.

Gulley Spring Creek 7/28 (Pic Heavy)
Bluff-Bassin replied to Bluff-Bassin's topic in Lower Bull Shoals
I think it was. I was catching a mix of spots and smallmouth from the point, and this one looked just like the spots but with more brown to it. I've caught a handful of them before but most of them have been under 12inches so this one was quite a bit bigger. -

Haha believe me I wasn't planning on wearing a sweatshirt, but got out of the truck at the ramp with a t-shirt and shorts and had to do some digging to find it. And after the early morning run to the first spot I wish I had pants not shorts on too! As soon as the sun came up it got hot in a hurry though. -
After reading a thread over on the table rock forum about using your electronics to vertical fish I figured I'd give it a try today. Admittedly it was tough on me to put away my ole standby (the football jig) and pretty much exclusively fished a drop shot (3/8 ounce w/ keitech dropshot worm) and a white slab spoon the whole day. I took some screen shots with my electronics to come back and review later on. Got on the water about 6:15. First stop was on a bluff near the saddle. I graphed some trees and tried to vertical fish them with the drop shot and spoon. No takers From there I ran up into Gulley Spring Creek. Tried a few more points with no success. Finally I idled over a non nondescript point on the creek arm and graphed a brushpile or laydown with alot of baitfish activity so I figured I'd stop and fish it for a bit. No takers on the brushpile itself but I noticed I was getting some followers coming up to check out the spoon on the graph. I drifted off the brush pile and noticed off to the side larger streaks on my graph. I dropped the spoon down, watched the spoon fall on the graph and boom, instant hook up with a 14 inch spot. I tried to get a screen shot of one of the fish hooking up on my graph. Here was the closest I got. The blue top line was my spoon and you can see the fish(the bigger line coming up to get it). Ended up catching 5 or 6 from this point. Couldn't really get on to the same pattern anywhere else it the creek. Got ready to call it quits around 1045 and was idling up to the dock at pontiac marina to load the boat and saw a huge group of fish schooling on top just inside the break wall tires. So of course I had to piddle with them for another 20 minutes. Ended up catching a 13"LM on a chrome spook jr Overall it was a nice surprisingly cool morning and I'm glad I forced myself to get out of my fishing comfort zone.

Agreed. Thank you for the insight. That's why this is a great site to frequent. It has helped me to have confidence and motivation enough to try things out of my comfort zone. I think fishing for suspended nomadic fish might arguably be one of the toughest patterns to make work. But you can't argue with results. Does he have any certain baits for this he recommends? I would assume a drop shot and spoon? Your traditional vertical offerings?

This thread is a good read. They're still there. Apparently in deep brush according to the divers. Its been almost the same on bull shoals. I just keep telling myself that everytime I have a bad day it'll make the good days all the sweeter!
