  1. Nortrad good looking flies. I have been keeping them pretty simple. black foam, orange under body, orange/black legs, and elk hair for the wing. Only used the Elk hair because that was all I had...seem to work quite well for me and floated like a cork. I bet they work for the most of the summer...should double has a big old hoppper as well. I wish this hatch happened every year. BTW I tried to PM you earlier but is was blocked.
  2. I usually just grab them by the tail and swing them around in a circle for a few minutes. They get pretty docile after that....have to be careful if other anglers are around.... they are slippery suckers. Can you educate a city boy what is kraut trout? Usually, we just add "izzle" to end of everything. I just gently put my thumb in the corner of the mouth, with my hand underneath and the other under the belly. When the camera was ready lifted her up...probably out of the water for 5 seconds. Thanks everyone again for all the nice comments.
  3. It is open until 9pm...in the fall you can fish a couple hours after dark before 9pm hits. Obviously you can't fish at night in the summer since it gets dark at 9pm. I think the gates close at 10pm fishing at 9pm.
  4. Yeah that is what she looked to me 23-24 inches...mabye a bit more...not sure the picture entirely does her justice. Very healthy and fat fish.
  5. Yep, that is what I was thinkging as far as size...should have got some measurements, but I was too worried about getting her back in the water. She didn't have mark on her. There was a lot of traffic Saturday so I was fishing in a strecth that I don't normally see many people fishing. There water isn't that great in this stretch, but I thought maybe I would have an outside chance at a big fish. Everyone once in awhile it actually works out!
  6. Thanks guys. It was awesome to catch and something I won't soon forget. The Cicada's were spotty today...and to be honest I didn't see may flying around. However, I think the cold front Friday night knocked everything back. I had a 8-10 hits on the Cicada and hooked up with 4 fish. 3 nice rainbows and then the Brown. I would bring Cicada patterns for sure...even if the Cicada's are slowing down it is getting closer to hopper soon so they would work in that regard too. Big black foam bodies with orange under body some legs and wings should do the trick.
  7. A couple highlights: Took a Cicada pattern I tied last night absolutely crushed the fly took me 75 yards downstream in a couple minutes I was stumbling around like an idiot trying to keep up The fish somehow was able to jump completely out of the water.. Ended up tiring out near another angler who was nice enough to take a picture and email them too me. I would write more, but I am one very tired and happy dude. It is the biggest trout I have caught to date. Almost forgot she was released and still had plenty of energy...she'll make it.
  8. Is there a trail that leads down to Ashely Creek from Baptist? If so were do I find it? I have always just waded down.
  9. What a freaking toad!
  10. Nice! Hope you cash in on Craiglist.
  11. I felt it in South City. Woke me up for sec...said to my girlfriend "felt like and earthquake". She just kind of rolled over. The next morning she says "hey did you know there was an earthquake last night? Yeah, babe I did.
  12. Sounds like a great day....water looks great....nice pics. Would you say the river is deeper? It was kind of hard for me to tell last time I was down. Hopefully, those Cicada's will still be singing this weekend. I smashed a few bugs with my car on 40 this morning...can hear them singing in the tree's. Need to buy some orange legs...think I got the hooks and the foam for the job.
  13. Nice report...thinking of trying Bennett this Saturday. I'll stick to the middle!
  14. Fish Busch a lot in the evenings after work as I work in Chesterfield. I have landed some big bass, but it is a long time between quality fish. Your best bet is too fish it a night in the fall. The fish are quite educated as we all know. Most of my bigger bass have come out of the Catfish lakes...I think they receive less bass fishing pressure than the others.
  15. Nice. 22, 23, 21, 27, 28, and 31 have a ton of bass them in them. They are all small, but on the right day you can catch ton's of them. Lot's of fun on the fly rod. Don't fish by the parking lot's. Bring some bug spray the mosquito's are brutal right know. IF you want bigger bass fish the catfish only lakes...some big bass in those lakes, but it will be a long time between fish.
  16. Nice fish. I hooked into one at Busch Wildlife last year on an Olive Bugger...quess the fish thought it was moss or something. Had it on for a few minutes, but never did land it. Sounds like quite a fun evening.
  17. I too recommend the Citica hand's down. Ming is going on 3 years and it flat our works great. Best reel you can buy in that price range IMO.
  18. I use AT$T and by buddies who fish the park called me last year when I was well below baptist to meet them for breakfast at the lodge. You shouldn't have any problems if you need reception. It is much better than it used to be.
  19. Depends. People fish much harder in a tournament than a relaxing float with buddies. I mostly fish alone or with one other buddy. If I wasn't floating I would probably just fish another weekend. We did pick the weekend of September 17th because it was event free. In that respect we are dissapointed and rightfully so...doesn't make us bad people. A tournament on the Current is a different beast than a relaxing float with friends. the river is small in the upper stretch. I am happy to donate toward a good cause...just let me now how I can for this event.
  20. I like shorter rods and heavier lines for walk the dog lures. It is the line pushing back against the lure that makes it walk...at least that is what I have been told. The heavier line offers more resistance giving a better walk the dog action. I usually use the heaviest line I can get away with. Usually 12-14 lb mono. I might go lighter if I was fishing a clear water stream as oppossed to a pond or lake.
  21. 5 of the 10 fish and only 1 other with me will fish the river. Kinda bummed to have a trip planned and coordinated a year advance to find out it might be very crowded.
  22. Gavin, I meant the tournament the weekend in September. I will be down the 16, 17, and 18 with a few college buddies. Have a good time this weekend. We will have to meet sometime though...I think we live pretty close to each other.
  23. I have 10 guys coming down to the park and the current this weekend for our annual trip! Kinda bummed the river is going to be overrun this weekend. Thought this was going to be during the week?
  24. I took my girlfriend fishing this weekend and she also caught her first bass. It was about 12 inches and about half a pound, but she was pretty excited! She is getting the bug too. Great story and congrats to your friend. I am sure she is pumped to get back on the water!
