  1. The one I was thinking of was where the guy takes his son and grandson to a tiny river and they are decked out in fly fishing gear with a bunch of gear lures attached to various places. Oh and they have center-pin style rods. May be the same commercial.
  2. I was definitely been stopped by the undercover MDC a few years ago on the Elk while obviously fishing for bass. I had no idea there was a bass season in Missouri at the time (being from AR). We were just fishing for fun and were not keeping anything and the guy just checked our licenses and told us not to keep any bass. By the way those undercover MDC guys are hilarious. One guy had a fly fishing vest, one of those floppy hats with all the lures stuck on it and was fishing with a tiny ultralite rod- looked like one of those guys on medication ads who was dressed as a generic fisherman by the props department..
  3. What section of the Norfork is that? I definitely want to plan a float up there this summer- I have never even been to that part of Missouri.
  4. Yep- tell him to come visit the Asher and University intersection in good ol' LR . I bet he'd last about ten minutes.
  5. I've always tied it in black 8/0 with red flashabou as a rib. Silver bead- curved scud hook or straight shank nymph hook sized 20-16.
  6. I used to go to church with the Halls- in fact her husband is a pastor at the church- they are great, Godly folks and their jigs are very fishy as well. They make bass sized jigs too.
  7. I have a barely used Sage 4250 with the case, box, warranty card and all that for sale. The color is called Stealth- which is matte black. I am selling this reel because I built a new rod that just really calls for the Platinum color 4200. Drag is great and is sealed. Large arbor, picks up a lot of line for a 5-6 reel. Holds all the backing you'll need on a 5wt or 6wt. Cannot get the picture to work but the reel does not have a scratch on it. Heres a link to the Sage site. Perfect condition as far as I can see. $250 or make an offer.
  8. That I don't know- the one time I camped I just 4 wheeled it up a trail I found and slept in my truck- it was probably illegal. A mule deer scared the crap out of me that night. Good times.
  9. If you're talking about large streamers for trout- I like my Rio Striper 26' sink tip- I have the 250 grain I think on my 7wt and it throws like a champ. That thing really gets down fast- it is not good for shallow water or wading. I also have a couple Rio integrated sink tip lines and they work ok- I prefer a full sinking line unless its a small stream or something. For white bass (wading) I use a Rio full sink type 2 on my 7 weight and it works really well.
  10. That is a mysis shrimp pattern. In the Taylor and the Pan, a bunch of really big fish are right under the dam eating these little clear/white shrimp- kinda look like brine shrimp. All the fly shops in the area stock mysis shrimp patterns- this is just my own version. I tied about a dozen for the last time I went to the Pan and I broke them all off during the first half of the day- those fish are fighters.
  11. I fished the Taylor, Pan, Gunnison, and various others in western CO quite a bit during my short stint as a guide. The river I miss the most is the Gunnison, but you have to do alot of hiking in there. The Taylor is frustrating but pretty fun. The Pan is pretty awesome. At either place youre going to want some small midges and nymphs as well as some Mysis shrimp patterns. I had success with something like this:
  12. I love my Cloudveil fishing gloves and if it is really cold I wear a pair of patagonia R1 gloves Unfortunately Cloudveil sold out and only sells ski junk- but their gloves are the bees knees (their waders were pretty good too). The Patagonias are really nice- great feel, waterproof and grippy- though I definitely still can't tie a blood knot with them on.
  13. I am in awe of yalls hair packing technique. That is one aspect of fly tying that I suck at.
  14. Last time I was up there during the spawn me and my buddy were disgusted with the way some of those guys "fished". I talked to one guy who made fun of me for breaking off a fish on another guys boots using 6x. He said "you gotta use 10 lb" and he had about 6 huge- maybe size 10 flies- none of which looked like something one of those fish would actually take. I watched that dude and a few other guys snag fish after fish with their fly-rod snagging rigs- mostly in the belly and tail. Made me not want to fish there during the spawn ever again. Same goes for the Little Red in Arkansas- only it isn't as blatant. I don't know why anyone thinks that is even fun- why not just bring a spear or a net? I wish i had called the mdc on those guys- don't know if it would have helped. To me, the spawning shoals should be off limits during the spawn- at least at the Little Red. They sort of are at the white and it obviously works.
  15. Trigg- that fly is sick. I was wondering who in the swap tied that. I'm almost afraid to throw it and risk losing it.
  16. I've done that with white bass fillets and it is dang good. Either Lays or Ruffles are my preference.
  17. Ya man- Hook and Hackle has free shipping on orders over $35 too- good deals on rod building stuff sometimes. Yes I believe the light will work for all UV resins. Not the most impressive light- but it works fine.
  18. Got mine last night- great group of flies gents. Got a trip to the white coming up so I'll try some out then.
  19. Hook and Hackle. http://store.hookhack.com/UV-Cure-Head-Cement/products/1343/
  20. I just got some "Solarez"- which is a CCG knockoff. Apparently it was originally for surf board repair. Stuff is pretty nice- the packaging is not near as nice as CCG though. But for the light and 15 grams of the stuff I paid 20 bucks. It cures really clear and has zero tack. I also have the Loon UV stuff and it is nasty- cures up real tacky and oily feeling.
  21. You can get the "Extra FIne" marabou from Metz I think that is much longer and more supple. The packs I have contain about 8 feather that are all 6- maybe 9 inches long. Makes a huge difference when you need to really cover some space. Also- Montana Fly Co.'s strung marabou has proven to be much better on average (IMO) compared to some of the other stuff I have.
  22. I think I have caught that one several times since that picture. When it is hot they don't really fight- which is disappointing.
  23. You can definitely get a grassie to eat a fly- I am not sure why but they will hit a small popper. I have caught them on brown and copper woolies as well. Some fight really well and some feel like you hooked a big turtle or an old boot.
  24. Wow, those really do look delicious.
  25. Pretty sure that article is satirical.
