bigredbirdfan Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 After lousey fishing on Taneycomo this last weekend I am going to drop the boat in the water at Table Rock for the first time next weekend. Currently I have some six and eight pound spinning reels and a variety of rods and don't really know where to start. Also have some in line reels and rods as well. Will probably put in at indian point. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have basic fish finding equipment nothing fancy and a limited amount of bass fishing structure vocabulary. Thx BRBF
Bill Babler Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 After reading Fishrmans friday report, why in the world would you want to put in at Indian Point? Kimberling City to Baxter to Shell Knob is fishing better than good, with fish not only near the bank, but eating things bass around here usually spit at. With limited lake knowledge and only short fishing times, you are making a huge mistake. Yes there are nice fish between point 1 and point 5, but they are HAMMERED AND HAMMERED. You think Taney is tough, you will learn what that truely means in the area you are launching. Yes Donnie and the locals that fish the area will catch them, but 200 days a year on the water plus the hundreds of hours they put in down there make a huge difference. Go up and put in off H hwy. at BAxter and throw that blade on any wind. It that is not present, a FB or Rig in 18 to 32 ft. on all the flat roll-offs, between Point 19 and Campbell Point will get you bit. techo Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I would never argue with Bill, but the other arm at Cape Fair and Flat Creek isn't too shabby right now either. Tim Carpenter

Very Best of Luck That is the best advise I have seen on this site in a long time! Mr. B is right very tough right now around the DAM, and to make things worst the Guys fishing the Big Stren derby coming up next week are making it even harder. I have only 2 spots in that area that are holding fish right now and so far they have not been found yet! YET!! But I know they will find them.. If it is around the Baxter to Cambell Point to Shell Knob Mr. B would know,go for it!! Good Fishing Don Capt. dtrs5kprs Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Do they have the dock in at H ramp? Seems like it is hit and miss in the fall, and it's kind of a plus when putting in alone in the wind, and Baxter area can be a sea with a north wind. Thanks in advance.
Members nathan RN Posted October 29, 2008 Members Posted October 29, 2008 My dad and i fished this past saturday and did pretty well for TR. We put in at about 9am and fished till 330pm. Fished out of Joe bald, such a shame, a nice camping area has to get shut down. We were the only boat at that ramp all day that we saw. didn't travel far to find fish. we fished everything from cranks to jigs to blades. The best fish came on a carolina rig with a 8" worm in watermelon candy in about 16-22 feet of water near bluffs ends. Had multiple 2# fish and alot in the 12-14 slot. we also caught some nice smallies on a norms crank size 5 in sexy shad mainly on pe gravel (fish this in a slow retreive very SLOW). good luck
Champ188 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 dtrs, Launched at H highway ramp Sunday and yes, the courtesy dock is there.
motoman Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 .........we fished everything from cranks to jigs to blades. ............ - Nathan, When you say you fished blades, are you talking blade baits? (like silver buddy's?)
Spinnaker Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Just curious about fishing near the dam the week after the Stren Tourney. I guess the boats will not have enouight time to get too far up stream so they will concentrate in the area of point 1 and 5? I want to come down on the 10th but the weather for the week is not good. Rain a couple of days and a high in the mid 40s with lows in the 30s on other days according to accuweather. The rain days are in the 60s which I think I can handle unless it is stormy. The cold might be another matter. I appreciate the info on these posts.
