I have not personally attacked anyone on any forum period since my mother (who was mentioned here) did not raise me that way.

Are you serious? Really? Tadman, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, ask if your mommy knows what you are up to. You call that a personal attack but your calling him "the ancient one" is not? If you are gonna play big man, you better learn how to take it like a big man. Otherwise don't play.

There was no complaints about the hunting part, just the availability of free tags to control the population. We were sitting on the border of a control unit that only allowed bucks for years even after the new system started. I could walk across the road on two corners of the property and shoot does but not on our land. We had to apply for special permits to take the does that were needed to control the population. With the new computer system we were automatically given a bonus tag with our farm tags till last year. Last year, we would have had to buy additional tags to harvest additional deer. This year, we get the bonus tags again.

How many free tags should one get? How do you decide that? Should it be decided on the amount of land owned or the amount of family members? Should it be only for those that actually live on the land hunted? Or can kids and grandkids, even from out of state, be allowed to hunt for free?

I thought it was just the owner or lessee and the immediate family that got the tags? I don't recall just how that worked. I am not jumping on you. I know you republicans have sensitive feeling so I am just asking. Don't get all redbird on me. I am just wondering where and or how we draw the line.

Old days, MDC would mail a form and we would fill it out for the free tags as a landowner. Only the landowner, leasee, spouse, or immediate household residing there qualify now and always. Then they went to the computer system, you go to a vendor and it spit out all of the tags, Spring and Fall Turkey, Archery, Firearms, and Blackpowder, and any bonus tags for the county you apply for. Then last year, only 1 any deer. You could purchase additional Antlerless deer tags for firearms. This year, back to normal, 1 antler, 1 antlerless. My father and I own our land and we both reside there. At times, his spouse, when he is married received landowner tags. My spouse when I was married never hunted. My nephew has resided with us at that residence and is eligible also. We allow other family members to hunt, they purchase tags.

The amount of Free Tags should equal the amount of legal deer we could take in the county if we were paying for the tags. Last year, in our county, if you purchased tags, you would have gotten 1 any deer for $17 and could purchase an additional Antlerless for $7. That is what I felt we were entitled to as landowners last year per qualifying person.

Did I say it again where it makes more sense?

One of those landowners is Brain Andrews, who has about 30 acres in the Ozarks and has received free permits for eight years.

"If this goes through, I might not ever hunt deer in Missouri again," said Andrews, 33, a network consultant from Cook Station. "I might even move to another state

Good. Then maybe the MDC can buy up his 30 acres and make a wildlife sanctuary.

And hey Al.... Don't go doubtin on fixed income stories - why back in 72 I had 4 tags and only one bullet, so I had to line up my shot and wait til I could get all 4 deer at once. I laid out in my stand for nigh on 72 hours until I had the perfect opportunity when 4 big bucks walked side by side right in front of me - I had to shoot 'em in the eye sockets to make sure my one bullet travelled through all of 'em. - - - -

Well that is what I thtought. Thanks for typing slowly for me. Over on this side of the state we haven't drawn for a bonus in years. Plus, I haven't done it but, it is my understanding you can purchase all the doe tags you can afford.

You know guys... MDC reads this forum and topics just like this one. But all the crap that goes on- all the personal stuff- all the exaggerations and mud throwing discredits anything anyone has to say here.

What you type means something. I'm really getting tired of it- and what erks me the most- you all aren't even using your real names. I think everyone would use alittle restraint if that wasn't the case.... add some accountability to the mix.

If you really want to be heard on these new regs, speak intelligently and quit the other stuff.

In kansas,. you have to lease or own 80 acres then its $20 a tag and, you cannot draw a mule deer permit automatically, even if you have them on your land. ITs just the way it is and I am sure they are short of money everywhere due to less people hunting and fishing.

The question here is not what has happened in the past but what is reasonable? How many acres does it take to hold and maintain deer for your hunting pleasure. That would depend on cover, terrain and surrounding areas for sure. I know that Missouri has a lot of deer due to the forests aKDnd crop mix. TO say you will quit and move is silly as whatever they charge, its cheap compared to everything else we do.

For example, water bills, Cable tv, internet, gasoline, and on and on. Most of us could cut something out to afford what we want. Its obivous. If you cannot afford a license, then I think allowances could be made. THe quest for larger racks has really ruined the kansas hunting in many ways, but enriched the landowners and KDWP while leaving most ppl out in the cold as far as access to hunt the deer they have a tag for. IF you have any public land to hunt on, count yourself lucky.

I would like to move to Missouri at some point and so this will affect me at some point. I only need one deer a year and not sure bout that one either. I love to hunt them but hate to shoot them. Does that make sense. Every time I finally make a kill, I wish my season wasnt over. hah

Hunt them with a camera. Nobody says you have to kill one. If you enjoy the hunting part of it and not so much the killing and eating, then by all means leave the gun at home. I would certainly commend you for doing that. But if you want kill one, by all means do that too. Remember, there is no season on hunting deer only killing them. Hunt on!!

You know, that got me to thinking how many I have killed. I know 16 with a bow, each larger than the previous. Untold with a gun. I have not lost the desire to pull a string, just have limited myself to only shooting at deer larger than the year before. HOWEVER, I have "killed" hundreds of deer over the years. About every day out, I get at least one. HOW? hah..

With a bow, you pull back on a deer and put the sight on them and then let them go, knowing you coulda made the shot.

With a gun, same idea. Put the scope on them and say BANG and let them walk.

Its okay with me if you take your deer every year and a doe too. GOOD FOR YOU as we have hit them with a car and someone needs to thin them out. I love deer jerky too when I can get one and make it.

HOWEVER, maybe I need to start taking youth out and teaching them and see them shoot and get one. I do enjoy teaching someone else and LOVE to see someone get a deer for the first time. Are there any programs like that down there? I would love that honestly.

I prob need a good camera but dont care for the pics, honestly. I just like the hunt and I guess knowing I can shoot one, is part of the game for me. I am a good partner on a deer lease as I dont take most deer the other guys would die for. Have been fortunate to live in great deer area and have lots of access, too. And time to go....thats the key isnt it?

Peace
