DD'sMC Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Great fish! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

TroutFearMe Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Alright you wanted the story here it is. On Sunday Nov 30 me and my brother headed down to Meremec Spring Park to take part in the C&R trout season. We started up by the wire and work the area hard I sarted with scuds and the I switched over to a San Jaun worm but after about 2 hours and no fish we decided to start working are way down stream in the park. We must have stoped and cast to every fish we saw along the way had several chase my flies but I couldn't get them to take the bait " that was just a figure of speach" I really wasn't using bait. We worked are way downstream to the bridge and decide we would turn around and start back up at the wire and make another pass before calling it quites. At around noon my brother decided he had enough and called it quites. I fished for another 20 minutes and had 2 trout take a rainbow colored scuds but I guess I didn't set the hook. So now I am faced with a delima do a stay here and fish the part or do I go against what everyone said and head for cardiac. I went back up to the car to find out what my brother wanted to do since this was only his second time trout fishing and I really think he likes going giggiing better then this. So I asked if he wanted to try cardiac out, he was a little hesitent because I have told him how easy it was going down the hill but the trip back up is a B***H "fill in the blanks." He agreed that he would give it a try and with that we were off. I cut through St James because it looked faster but I must have missed the turn and found myself hearing banjo music up in the hills some where. I finally found some locals that informed me that I was actually by dryfork and not cardiac so after getting directions to cardiac again we where off. Once we arrived at cardiac I again warned him the we had on easy walk down the hill but we were going to have to come back up it and he said lets do it. We got down to the stream around 1:30 and we started heading down stream. Now I know none of you guys have fished with me before but when I fish cardiac I fish it on the fly I don't really stop a whole lot I try to fish it fast and hard. After about 10 mins in the stream I was drifting a fly about 3 feet under my indicator and with a slight twich of the indicator the fight was on, I was happy because now my day is going to be complete I finally caught a trout. After a short fight with this rainbow I landed him and released him. I told my brother we only were going to fish about 15 to 20minutes and then call it quites so we headed down stream a little farther to a spot that I have hooked into several fish before but never landed them after fishing this little spot for a few minutes I said to my brother I amgoing to make a couple more drifts through this hole and we would call it quites. That when It happen on my final drift my indicator completely summerged and I thought I snagged the bottom so I lifted my rod tip to free my self and that when I noticed that it was moving. I relised that this was somthing big it felt like I was dragging a brick acrossed the bottom but this brick was fighting back. I have never seen my rod bend this way before I knew it was somthing big I faught this fish for like ten minutes before I even was able to get a glimpse at what it was. The first thing I saw was its tail and when I saw it I new it was somthing special after about fifteen minutes of fight this fish I told my brother it was time to net him. And that is my story I WILL NOT give the name of the fly I was using but I will say this there are two other members to this site that know my goto fly. I will tell you what color it was BLK & WHT. And all I will say about the location is it was down stream from the put in at cardiac. I am including more pics from this magical day including a bending rod pic and the pic of the fish again. Tight lines to everyone. P.S. If anyone would like to know where this spot is you should come fishing with me.
