What's the best blue ribbon stream in missouri? It seems that everyone in here likes different streams for different reason and I am curiuos to know what is your favorite blue ribbon stream and why? I like Crane for the simple fact that it's closest blue ribbon stream for me and that there is hardly anyone out there when I am there. The fact that the stream holdsMcCloud rainbows doesn't hurt either. But I would really like to hear others oppinions and views of blue ribbon streams in Missouri.

I have only fished the Little Piney Creek Blue Ribbon area, and I really like it. I have actually never landed a trout from there, but I recently hooked and lost one about 20" and three pounds. It has only been a Blue Ribbon stream a few years (it used to be a white ribbon area), and the fishing has yet to reach its potential, I believe. Plus smallmouth bass are plentiful.

Eleven Point River has to be the best. Wild and beautiful. Hard fighting trout. Plenty of room to let them grow big.

My brother bought a fly fishing book for me and the author had really positive things to say about little piney. He said that he was curious as to why more people didn't fish there. I have also heard really positive things about eleven point as well, I've always wanted to fish there but haven't had the chance as of yet. As soon as I graduate from law school, I think Im going to move to Springfeild and get closer to some streams.

As of right now, my vote would be Crane. I've only fished the Eleven Point once a long time ago. I should get back over that way because I really think I'm missing something over there.

A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!!

Heck, they're all good in one way or another. Depends on what you're looking for.

If it's big browns, some rainbows, ability to float with plenty of opportunities to camp along the way that you're looking for (and you don't mind a lot of canoe traffic, and all that goes with it), it would have to be the Current.

Big, wild rainbows and big, wild, floatable water? Eleven Point. Want good pizza too? NFOW (The Antler in Gainesville).

Challenging, small stream? Crane or BSC or Barren Fork.

Kinda middle-of-the road: Smaller stream, generally smaller fish? Little Piney, Mill.

As Ness said, it just depends on what you want..

Brown trout in a freeflowing stream, great scenery, fun floating, great free camping ops...Current River

Rainbow trout (mostly stocked, but some wild) in free flowing water, great scenery, fun float, fair free camping ops..11pt

Best chance at a wild rainbow over 12" or so, stocked brown trout, fair scenery (too many cabins), fun float, pay to camp, lots o people..NFoW

Pint sized wild rainbow creeks...

Take your pick...they are all about the same. Fun diversions, but the fish are rarely bigger than 12", those that are, are few and far between. After an hour or so you feel kinda bad about punishing the little things.

I was told the wild rainbow trout creeks rarely had anything over 12", until I saw that 20" beast on the end of my line. But that is the only one I have ever hooked there, so that might have been just a fluke. Didn't get him in though, which was pretty frustating.

What you refer to as a wild trout creek, does not exist. All of the areas are stocked with hatchery raised fish on a routine basis. And yes they do stock 20 inch fish on occasion. The majority of the fish are 12 inch because that's what they stock. Most never make it past 12 inch in the wild, because of predators, such as man, river otter, mink, and blue herons. The fish always go through the ritual of spawning, but very few eggs survive. Even fewer hatchlings survive.

I was going to throw a shout out for Blue Springs just outside of Bourbon, MO. This is a tiny stream and most fish are under 12".

Laker67, Do you know if this stream is stocked?
