techo Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Did better than yesterday, but no keepers. We caught all of ours at the end of our day on shaky heads. It was still a long hard working type day. We put in at Aunt's Creek and fished toward Campbell Point again. Starting to see some fish jumping in the coves. I think they are getting excited. The Mrs. accompanied me and it was an awesome day overall. I doubt I will be entering the Big Bass Bash at this rate. Bumped into Captain Don and a couple of his clients. Nice boat! Tim Carpenter

Techo, glad to see you today.. We had a few more fish but still slow.. Had a PM outing and man things changed, All on stickbaits in the wind.. After that front moved thru and the wind changed they really came to life in the main lake creek arms.. techo Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Totally understand the quiet part. I have a really good source or two myself. Hope to weigh a fish or two! Hey good luck on Sunday. See you there. Tim Carpenter
Bill Babler Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 T. Today was very different than yesterday for me. I took a derby fisherman for this weekend, and that is always tough, as they don't want to be guided to catch fish, they want to be guided to where they can catch fish. Fished 28 locations today and the morning shift, as Donnie said was a real chore. Yes we did catch some on the stick, but not a real humdinger. Afternoon as Don mentioned much better, starting for me around 1 Pm. It is amazing, you can take one of these guys, that has never weighed in a fish on the rock and he can think he had a slow day with 14 keepers on about a dozen different locations. 4 pounder was big fish and to tell you the truth not a huge ammount of shorts, however, after we would catch 1 he was ready to pull the troller and move to a new spot. These fish are not everywhere, and when I have to move everytime we catch one as to not stick another, it makes it durn near impossible to continue to come up with location after location of feeding fish. I did that 28 times today, and my guess that may be a rock record. Probably for inepttitude. Wore me flat out. Rig did produce very well today out in the deep water to 28 ft. But still 90 percent of the fish came on the stickbait. Wind is an absolute must. Caught several shorts swimming a grub, but still even thought denjac can do it, I just don't have the faith in it to keep flinging. By far best area of the lake is from point 9 to Longcreek, Slowest is from point 9 to point 21. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
techo Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Hey Bill, My wife picked up my Shimano reel today (the one you recommended.) Also the one I got into a bit of trouble for purchasing. She cast about a country mile with it. The mg51 is sweeeeeeeet! It might be her reel now though. Tim Carpenter
dwiebenga Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Hey guys, With the warm weather this week, will the stickbait bite last til next week? I am arriving for 5 days next Thursday night. Or am looking at shakey, rigs, grubs, blades, and tubes. Thank you and I will finally see you next week!!!
Bill Babler Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 T. My client got in the boat today with 8 brand new Johnny Morris gold series reels and 8 Johnny Morris elite series rods, only used them for a couple of weeks. Mined you these are between 4 and 5 hundred dollar outfits. Within about an hour they were all in my rod box and he was using Shimano and Falcon. I will just about bet that the total weight of each outfit was nearly twice as much as the compairable size Falcon Shimano rig. Falcon's Cara stickbait special with the Shimano MG50 comes in at about 9 oz. He was a very good caster, and he kept backlashing and his distance was terrible, throwing the megabass. I was outthrowing him 30 feet. Even directly into the wind. I never saw him not once backlash the Mg50 and he fished it in the wind all afternoon. I said, "Let me throw that thing". 6'6" medium using 10 pound Segar same as on the Shimano falcon rig. I could do no better than he was doing and backlashed it twice throwing with the wind. Felt like I had a 5 pound stick in my hand. I want you to think how good KVD must be having to fish with this stuff. I have told this story before, but when I first started guiding I got all my gear at Bass Pro. My first trip out of Big Cedar, I went in with all my Pro-Qualifier Power hump and Pfluger reels lined neatly on the deck of my boat. Just a flat "Show Piece." I was so proud of my new BP gear. BAck in those days, it was not uncommon to have 12 to 20 guide boat tied to BC dock on a corporate trip morning. As I looked in all these gleaming BC Guide boats, all I saw were Stradics and Calcuttas on the decks. Made me think. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
crazy4fishin Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 So Bill what rod would you recommend? I purchased a Johnny Morris signature on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and am in the market for the right rod. But I dont want to spend a trillion $$$$$ - my budget is in the $50 - $60 range; or should I say that my wifes allowance for me is in that range. Any comments appreciated. Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Members DoctaJ Posted April 17, 2009 Members Posted April 17, 2009 The new Johnny Gold is a nice real, but it's heavy like you said. BPS should have designed it a little lighter and not made it look like the elite or signature series. I myself have the chronarc mg and the 100 curado on st. croix legend elite rods. Feels like a feather. I can see if your on a budget and can't afford the nice stuff but most guys who fish just don't understand what a great rod can do for you. Crazy4fishin, I would save some more money unless you can find one on wholesale. The mojo bass rod by criox will run you 89. Simano compre (lifetime warranty) will run you the same unless you go 7ft about 109) Crucial run you 150 for a lifetime INSTORE warranty. If you can look at a Cumara, you won't be disapointed but it will run 209.00. St. Criox has the avid and premeir too. For 50-60 range at retail you are looking BPS Tourney Special, Ugly Stick, Berkely Lighting Rod, Al-star Rod (little more than 60). Let me know what your looking for, I have a 7ft MH compre that I'm willing to party with. But I would check ebay for sure, I'm sure you would get a better deal than retail.
crazy4fishin Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Thanks Doc, good advice. I was looking for something int he 6'6" MH but would consider a 7' - what would you need for your rod? Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
