Fishing Buddy Don House Posted May 5, 2009 Fishing Buddy Posted May 5, 2009 Hey guys thanks for the info. I think i am going to try a few of the different brands and when i get the chance to get down to the Rock (hopefully in the next couple of weekends) i will throw them and give my opinion on the baits. I am going to compare the river2sea jointed v minnow, buckeye and mikey jr i think. What colors do u guys prefer in topwater baits? Does it matter all that much since the fish are looking up and really only seeing the belley of the bait? Again thanks fellas for your input. -Brett I really like the mikey Jr 3.5 and the 5.5 versions.. Ten Shad or the Aurora Black work the best for me.. Also there is one called the Jackall Dragor that I just really love.. Althought today the good old Red Fin worked the best.. But these Jackall baits are really nice right out of the box.. Don't let the size bother you all sizes work great in this pond... Only problem I have with them is the price! But I learned something this year with the jerkbait, dang gone they are very pricey but man did they work great... Also try the Bonnie 95 it is a great spook look a like that runs great out of the box, very easy to use even my clients that have never used a spook can maje this guy work great!!! abkeenan Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Thanks Don. When u are using these wake baits do u just keep reeling at a constant speed or do u stop and let it sit a second or two or give it a twitch/pause kinda action? -Brett
Ham Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I guess it is the nature of the beast, but the number of follows that this style of baits gets is just heart breaking at times. I've read that wake baits shine when there isn't a lot of wind. Do ya'll find that to be true as a general rule? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Quillback Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The Strike King Wake Shad looks very nice, but $22.00 each! Yowch!
Members mrcold Posted May 5, 2009 Members Posted May 5, 2009 Ordered a couple of these last night: 1. I hope they get here in time. 2. I really hope they work. Seems like a bit better than the prices on the Mikeys and Wake Shad...I've been unable to find the redfins up here around Omaha thus far.
Members mrcold Posted May 5, 2009 Members Posted May 5, 2009 What lure is that MRCold? River2Sea V-joint Wake Minnow, Chartreuse Shad. The only wakebait I've ever used is the Mann's Waker, but it didn't appear to have the body shape to imitate the threadfins (I'm assuming that's the intent of this technique), so I thought I'd give them a shot. If nothing else, I need to fill a space in my topwater box. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageSWIMRIVER-R2SVMW.html

Good Fishing Don Don, What color Bonnie having you been throwing? FYI the jig rod feels great but anxious for the season to heat up so I can get more use out of it.
