Not to pour gas on the Fire but I've had my fill as well.

Had someone fishing a derby later this month call and ask if I could guarantee a win if they would booked me for a 1/2 day, of course I told them if I could guarantee a win I would fish it.

Just getting a little tired ofguys cutting corners to find fish, between the calls, emails and now being followed on the lake (As one on of my clients called it "the bent rod pattern") it's all pretty weak.

If that's what it takes to win is it really a win?

As well as my membership on this website.

How do I deal with those who ignore the 50 yard encroachment rule?......I show them just how accurate I am with a crank bait! rtj4bb.gif

Eric, your question goes straight to the point I was trying to make earlier. It's a character issue. For those of us with a work ethic, winning on someone else's (a guide) pattern or fish would seem empty. For others, they see no difference as long as they win.

I also suspect that the latter group are far more interested in the money than the sport itself, so since they have little or no fishing skills, hassling guides for free info is their only shot at winning.

And herein lies the problem. Mix money with any hobby or sport and it usually sours it.

Money, fame, ego,...I want to be like the guys on TV. People give them boats...They are famous...

Same stuff happens with world class whitetails in Illinois, Iowa and Kansas.

When you add the glitz and glamour to our hobbies, the mindless tools will do anything they can to have a piece of it.

I wonder why Catfish, Crappie, walleye,...etc. guides don't have the same problem?

I love TR. It is my favorite lake in the state. I live and work in St. Louis and I only get down that way about twice a year. I usually try to hit the rock at least once and tanney at least once. When I am on the Rock it is usually for a 4-5 days with a club tournament taking up the last two days. I fish my tail off those three days before the tournament and I have done fairly well over the years, 3 wins. This year I fished with my wife and won our club tournament with 23.49lbs over two days. That was my best result on the rock yet. I would be running blind if it were not for this website and the reports that you guys post. All of my information that I use, I get off of the posts that are on here. Anyone can do fairly well if they just read the post closely and look at a map when they do it. If you want something for free, it is all right here, just read it.

There are many of us that really appreciate the work that you guys do. From all of us I say thank you.

Try not to let those other guys get you down. If I were you I would give them the wrong information and when they complain I would tell them that they got what they paid for.

By the way, I have a tournament next April and I was wondering if you could give me some spots that I can bump that 23.49 up to about 33. For no cost, of course. ;)

Thanks again for all you guys do.

I feel pretty good that my best two days equal Bill's average days.

I think if you stop and consider things, it comes with the turf. Hang around a golf pro shop and see how many guys want tips instead of paying for a lesson, go to a boat dealership and see how many guys want a "how can I fix this problem", ask a school teacher how many friends and acquaintances want them to fix all their childrens problems. If you really want to be bothered with people wanting a lot for nothing, become a cop.

Did anyone see what Greg Hackney said about who his hero is and why? His hero was Rick Clun. Why? Because he fishes w/out any help.

It goes with Champ's point. There is something material about Rick's process and finding fish on your own and using your own skill set to catch. Chances are when you achieve this it is very unlikely that others can duplicate.

You know they do... there is always someone who wants to have something given to them... instead of earning it. I don't think it matters whether they are catching bass to make a check in a tourney or catching cats, crappie, or walleye to eat-- there is always someone wanting to be practically GIVEN the fish, instead of catching them by their own merits.

Hey Chris,

I know a couple of catfish guides on Truman and they have the same problem, it's not just the money, it's folks trying to cut corners and look like a hero.

Nice post Champ. Hope you and Donna are doing well. ;)

Whack'em

Thanks Whack'em. All is well. Had my 6-months kidney cancer check-up and still cancer free. It was a very good report. Go back every 6 months for a few years. Made it into the CPAA championship again this year in the last tournament at the Rock. Had a very nice pro who is a local. Got quite the drop shot lesson and limited out in the last 30 minutes. Whew! Cutting it close. I'm so excited. I certainly didn't want to go to Bull Shoals just as Champ's bass caddy. lol
