Unlicensed Guides On Table Rock

Aparently there has been a rash of unlicensed guides on Table Rock this summer. If you guide on the White River chain you are required to have a Coast Guard license.

I was with another guide on a trip Friday and we observed someone being paid a fee to take people fishing. When asked the "guide" stated he didn't need a license and took off. The other guide called the Coast Guard and turned in the boat numbers of the "guide". The Coast Guard mentioned they had a number of complaints on Table Rock, including this boat number, and would be investigating.

Amen to that Eric! I have been hearing of a few guys doing this myself. It is hard enough for us that have went through the process of getting our license to get trips, but these guys are guiding for money and taking away potential clients for the rest of us that are legitimate.

Could some of these "guides" been some of those who were following you, Babler, Capt. Don and others earlier this summer and caused such a fuss on this board? Would be interesting to find out. Regardless, for all licensed guides who post here, thanks for all your tips and help. I know your help has made me a better fisherman!

The Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) license is commonly called a six-pack or charter captain's license. This Coast Guard license is required by those operating uninspected vessels (not required to undergo inspections by the Coast Guard) that carry no more than six passengers for hire. It will NOT allow you to operate inspected vessels or carry more than six passengers for hire.

Eligibility Requirements

USCG Application

Age: 18 years old

Sea Experience:

OUPV Inland

360 days* operating a small vessel

90 days of the 360 must be within the last 3 years.

The documents and completed forms you will need to suppy with the OUPV application include:

Coast Guard Application Form (CG-719B)

Sea Service Form (CG-719S)

Physical Examination Report (CG-719K)

Drug Test Report (5 Substance SAMSHA -- CG-719-P)

Three Character References

Social Security Card

Proof of Citizenship

First Aid/CPR Certification

Training Certificate

They have always been there and probably always will be. They are the same type of people who keep more than a limit and take game out of season. Rules don't apply to them as long as they don't get caught.
