rps Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 The entire White River chain? I would imagine the number of guides below Bull Shoals numbers in the hundreds. I have a hunch very few have that license. I can just see the headlines when the feds sting Gastons, Newlands, and the rest. Zhoyt, on the other hand, guides from his kayak and doesn't carry passengers. He's safe.
Flysmallie Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Eligibility Requirements 360 days* operating a small vessel 90 days of the 360 must be within the last 3 years. Phil, How do they verify this. It's not hard to achieve this but how do you prove it to them? Â Â

The White River is considered a navigable water way by the US Coast Guard, if they are using a boat they should be licensed. Taking out firends, family and business associates (clients, sponsors, etc...) is not an issue even if they slip you a little money for gas.....or a candy bar or water. As I understand it, taking individuals out for hire without merchant mariner certificate is a violation that carres a $15,000 fine. Scheduling trips without one carries another $15,000 fine. Ask the guys up at Lake of the Ozarks that got busted last year. Documentation of sea service for a six pack license is a pretty grey area. They accept registration of your boat(s) and your word as proof enough. Bill Babler Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Crappie, I can see the bottle of water, but I think you may have been grossly over paid with a full Snikers bar. Should have declined it, or just taken 1 small bite. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Eric, there is also the small matter, about the moritorum of no lic. for 5 yrs. if you are convicted of guiding without the proper creditentials. USCG, has been on the Rock and some of our guides accidently let their lic. slip. One of our good friends got it in a bad way, to the tune of several thousand dollar fine. Won't mention names, we all know who it was. No games to begin http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 24, 2009 Root Admin Posted August 24, 2009 White River below BS dam is exempt, for some crazy reason. I'd think the training and test speaks to river situations more than a lake. The training for Alaska Waters was very enjoyable- I learned alot... much more than I did for the Limited White River OUVP.
Danoinark Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Phil, are CG licenses required below Beaver, Little Red and Norfork? Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Zack Hoyt Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 It was my understanding the regs were stated by engine size and occupancy. I honestly cant think of any river guides who have the CG license. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions

Friend Zach, there was a big discussion about it on Wilson's board a few years back. I don't think there was ever a conclusion to the discussion. From what I understand guides on Taney do need the CG Lic, but I was unaware the guides on the White below BS didn't. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

Dano It is worth looking into Dan. My big question is, all it takes to get a guide license is $25 when you buy you AGFC license. If there was a CG requirement, I would imagine they would require you to show the cert at purchase. Who has this law stated? Is this a Corp of Engineers, Dept of Conservation, or Coast Guard requirement? I know the AGFC/MDC can enforce Corp of Engineers laws, but I dont know about Coast Guard enforcement.
