That's a very nice seat setup that you are working on there Eric. I might have to steal your idea!!

I have/had the same seats in my boat but they really sucked. Too low and too flexible. When I put my big fat butt in them then the would flex and I would sit even lower. With your design your raising them up plus giving them the extra support that they need on the bottom.

As soon as I'm finished I'll write up a parts list and dimensions for the woodworking portions. I'm still noodling on rod holders and other little conveniences, and will post them also as I go. I have a habit of modifying just about everything I own, so I have a feeling this thread may go on and on until my canoe looks like something NASA built.

Here are the completed thwarts after three coats of polyurethane. I'd like to add two more coats if I can muster the patience.

Here are the dimensions for the thwarts. Keep in mind that these dimensions will vary depending on exactly how far forward you want your seat. I'm moving mine approximately 5-6 inches farther forward than factory placement. Obviously, the canoe tapers to the ends, so placing your seat farther back will mean shorter thwarts, and farther forward will require longer thwarts.

Here's a modified beer-holder/pouch for stuff. Still working on the seat; should be done tomorrow.

I like the modifications too, but I have one concern. Maybe a bigger beer holder/pouch.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

That's a tall-boy if you can't tell. Not sure they make 'em bigger than that.

Here it is gentlemen. The completed and installed modified seat. I still have to cut the excess bolts off at the nuts, but I'll have to wait until I see how she rides in case I need to adjust it any.

Here's a custom rod holder that I'm really proud of.
