edwin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I currently have a bunch of Shimano Chronarch baitcasters...they're 10 yrs old and I love em, love em, love em. I also have a few lower end Shimano spinning reels, one's a Sahara, the other is a Sedona. Both work fine, but I'd like to add a nicer Shimano egg beater reel to the stable. Anyone have suggestions on how high I need to go in their product line to get a Chronarch-like product? Tnx in advance, edwin "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
Flippin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I dont throw a Chronarch but I think the Symettre is a very good spinning reel. The Symettre throws smoothly and I never have had a problem with them.

For $130 to have a real that is as smooth and durable that works and keeps on working even when not taken care of. This is the best spinning real I have ever owned over $100 bucks.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Look at the Johnny Morris Signature. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Ham Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I like Shimano baitcasters just fine, but Shimano has had a long standing problem with their spinning reels binding when they get wet. They may have fixed it by now, but I swore them off years ago. I suggest looking at the Daiwas instead. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members 3inonegod Posted October 6, 2009 Members Posted October 6, 2009 I mostly use a bait caster. I use 14 pound flouro on them. I have 2 spinning reels that I put 8 pound flouro on. I use the Shimano Sonora 2500. I is a lower end spinning reel, however, I out cast anyone that is in my boat. I fished for 4 days this weekend at the rock and never had any issues with line twist. On the cloudy days I will use my bait casters. On Sunday it was very sunny and I used the spinning rigs that I have. I have owned them for 3 years and never had a problem. The sell for about $50 and come with an extra spool. Hope that helps.
Sam Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I have Daiwa Exceler spinning reels in three different sizes, and I like them a lot. Those are only $70 reels, so if the higher-priced Daiwa reels are even better than these they must really be good. I also use a Pfleuger President-series spinning reel in the same price range, and I like it too. Maybe I'm inclined to like it because I've been fishing with Pfleuger products, off and on, for 50 years or so. Or, maybe the Pfleuger name just makes me think of Sven and Ole.
gabe Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I 2nd the Shimano Symetre. Very good spinning reel for the price. I have never had any problems with mine and I have had it for 4 years.
edwin Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Thanks for the feedback folks. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
Bill P Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I upgraded to a couple Symetres this year. Very happy with them. They cost 100 bucks.
