Members JDH_MOangler Posted October 14, 2009 Members Posted October 14, 2009 I upgraded to a couple Symetres this year. Very happy with them. They cost 100 bucks. I have three Symetres and have had no problems with any of them. Nice reels for the money.
edwin Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Thanks for the input folks...made a long road trip and picked up a new boat today. While on the way back, went ahead and stopped by the Macon, GA BPS and got a Symetre to go with it. Feels like a great reel. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"

While on the way back, went ahead and stopped by the Macon, GA BPS and got a Symetre to go with it. Feels like a great reel. I had a Symetre and a Stradic side by side yesterday at Cabela's and could hardly tell the difference. Other than a few cosmetic differences and one less ball bearing, I think they're pretty close. Report back after using it a couple times if you don't mind.
ness Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Just jumped in this thread to see what all the hoolpa was. Dayum! $600 for a spinning reel? That's nuts -- even if you do make your living fishing, that's nuts. If I had a deal and could get a $600 reel for $300, I'd still pass because people would think I'm nuts. I don't spin fish enough really put the gear through a good test, but I have all sub-$100 Shimanos and like them. Gavin -- that Daiwa looks pretty nice, and is reasonably priced. John
Gavin Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 The Daiwa Exceller isnt bad...used em for two seasons after my Shimano's went south on me...The Daiwa works when wet, but the bail doesnt trip all the time. My wife hated the bail on hers and wanted a replacement, so I talked to a buddy of mine who owns U.S. Reel. Picked up two reels from him last September at a really nice price... My wife has been using the Supercaster 230 and she really likes it. I've been doing most of my spin fishing with a U.S. Reel 180 since then...I like it better than the Daiwa too. It has a positive bail trip, casts a mile, and it hasnt bound when wet. I've been very happy with it so far. Cheers.
ColdWaterFshr Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Shimano Sedona spinning reel set me back less than $30 I wanna say, and I've had it plenty wet and sloshing around in canoe bilge, nary a problem, never binded up on me once. Maybe ya'll is spending too much.

I've got 8 fishing days under the belt with the Symetre and am quite pleased. I like it so much in fact that I just bought a new Shimano Cumara drop shot rod to go with it. No foul weather fishing with it yet but seems like a typical, fantastic Shimano product. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"

I just got a new Symetre, too, and it seems real nice. But they're always nice when they're dry...go get her wet and report back, or I will hopefully by Wednesday...gotta trip planned if we're not blown out.
edwin Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Well, I was out all day last Saturday, often in the pouring rain...got a good opportunity to wet-test my Symetre. Happy to report that even after hours in one of the wickedest storms I've fished thru, the Symetre worked like a champ. No complaints here at all. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
