eric1978 Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 I will tell you guy's a couple of mod's that I like to do. I figure that is what this place is for. I will tell just about anything short of where I was. One I like to do is add gold hooks when I break one or just change them out for one reason or another. I don't know if it really helps but I like to think it does. I usually only do it on the rear hook. Another one I used to do to crankbaits was to take some colored pipe cleaner and wrap around the shank of the hook. I used to like to use orange or purple or a bright green. PC beat me to the punch but, here is most of what I like to carry. The only thing I didn't take a pic of was the soft plastics. Dang Chief, you're rollin' with some old school stuff. Just goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune on lures to be a good fisherman. My tackle box looked like that a long time ago, but over the years it's turned more high-end Japanese type stuff. But I bet most of your stuff would go toe to toe with any $20 LC or Megabass lure most days. Sometimes I think the really pretty, expensive lures with fancy paintjobs are more marketing for the fishermen, and not so important to the fish, but I'm a sucker. I never did get into the Rebel Craw crankbaits, but I like the look of all your Warts. Lots of miles on those babies. I like some of the original colors, but mostly buy the Madflash colors now. Gotta love the Warts.
smallmouthjoe Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Wow, this is awesome. Pc, how do you rig those sliders? A lot of guys on river smallies love them I've been wanting to try them out. They're just paddle tailed worms right? Jig head? I keep meaning to try a wiggle wart on the river, if if they work well in lakes why wouldn't they work for river smallies.
Gavin Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Sliders...its just a lead headed worm hook from Charlie Brewer...I usually toss a finesse worms on them..Wart Modifications...I add a white rabbit strip to the back hook on some of them....picked up the tip out of one of Larry Dabblemont's books. Chiefs mods are pretty cool......Baby Lucky 13's with a skirt on the front hook. Big Piney Old School right there.
eric1978 Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 I keep meaning to try a wiggle wart on the river, if if they work well in lakes why wouldn't they work for river smallies. They do. I like them right around this time of year, and especially in early spring if we get a warm rain that raises the river a little and murkies up the water. You can find them going nuts at those times and catch fish on nearly every cast in a good spot.
timinmo Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Hey Chief It has been along time since I saw any one throw a Tiny Tad or Tad Polly. My Dad swore by the Tiny Tads and I have caught quite a few good fish on them. My only problem is that I am almost afraid to use them for fear of loosing any. The last ones I bought were from a collector. I don't know when they stopped making them but I have not been able to find a new source. If you know where they are available please throw me a lifeline. To the original topic. In the canoe I have one box of jerkbaits, mainly LC, one box of topwaters , mainly WTD some poppers, one box of cranks, ranging from shallow to deep, one box of mixed lures, and a box with hooks and weights. These are all in a soft bag that has three outside pockets which hold soft plastics. This was a reduction of what I used to carry and the rest of the stuff is in a backup bag at home. I also have a wading bag which holds basically the same thing except rather than 10 or 15 topwaters I have three or four of each type lure and only two or three different soft plastics. I find things tend to grow, so periodically I have to go through and weed out what I have not been using or resupply what I am short on. Tim
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 .Baby Lucky 13's with a skirt on the front hook. Big Piney Old School right there. Big Piney Old School, or a school teacher turned artist a little farther east? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
brownieman Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 There are seveal older plugs Chief showed that are collectable. I took some outta my box, Sonics, Lucky 13s, several that I found were pretty collectable. I was totally surprised when I first found they were worth what they are. Dad and I made some plugs that are copy cats of them...it's just a little harder to throw them when you know they are worth 30-40 bucks and can't be store bought now. Guess I just don't realize what an old fart I've become...never thought I would be around this long, shoulda, coulda...you know, lol. later on bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
fishinwrench Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Big Piney Old School, or a school teacher turned artist a little farther east? LOL, I started to say that....but I figured I had already breached my smart-butt comment quota for the month.

Where the heck did all that stuff go, anyway? Those babies would be on ebay so fast I'd have myself a new Loomis in a week.
Paola Cat Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 The sliders are just 4" flat tail worms. I usually fish the sliders texas style. Small worm weight and a long shank cricket hook. This has always worked well for me. Salt-n-pepper is my best best color (now they'll all be doing it!!!!). I prefer to fish smaller/skinnier waters. My favorite waters are Flat Creek, the Upper Niangua, and some of the upper Niangua feeder creeks. I'm more of a numbers than a trophy smallie fisherman. PC Cheers. PC
