Well I figured I could answer a few of those questions. I will be creeling the trout lakes at busch this year only as I did stocked catfish. I agree that the money could be spent better in other areas especially since the fish DO die June-ish when temps hit 70's. Most get eaten so fast by herons and turtles we never see them. I still find it an excellent place to play and sometimes work. Even into April there are TONS of trout, they school up in the deep water and are easy to catch. The thing is you must be using exactly what they want..... I will be there starting Wednesday, no particular reason. If your backyard is crane creek you are a lucky man, but to me busch looks pretty nice. Litter and poaching should be lower with an MDC vehicle driving from lake to lake every hour.

Is that the "inside scoop", trout will be stocked by Wedesday?

Real men go propless!

LOL! Apparently it was the "inside scoop".

I like BWL. It is the only place most years that I get to fish with my buddies that have kids and not a lot of time. Heck, one year, we were there and fished and they hadn't even stocked trout yet. Still it was a blast, even if all we did was shake the cobwebs off the fly casting and stand in the parking lot and BS. Fishing isn't always about the scenery and seeing no one else. Its about hangin with your buds and having a good time no matter what the setting.

I've even met SIO3 out there for the first time and we fished in the snow, didn't catch much but it was nice to put a name with a face.

So, phooey on all you BWL nay-sayers.

FYI - - -

As of Nov-3 three lakes were stocked with trout so far in the St Louis area. Koeneman Lake - 1800........Busch Lake 21 - 1026......Busch Lake 28 - 2160. Since there are some against this program I guess the number of anglers will be down this winter. :P

BTW.....all three of these lakes are 'Catch-n-Release'.

It's a waste of resources probably... But it happens to be a waste I will thoroughly enjoy catching come a cold winter day. B)

I do see the point of stocking these areas, if you see some value in recruiting some folks to the sport of trout fishing. It will introduce some people to the sport, and I think that's a good thing. I do think the Ozarks already have plenty of trout. But then again, there's actually trout habitat down there...

It is a good way for youngsters to be able to use bait and catch fish in the winter. There's not much else they can fish for and what does it hurt anyway. It gives you something to fish for with your 5 year old grandson on a 45 degree Sunday in January.
