There are some "natural lakes" along the Missouri river, and probably the Mississippi, that were formed when the river, in a rage, straightened itself out. All of them that I'm aware of are shallow and not really premium fisheries. There is a State Park in the northwest corner that is on one of these, can't recall the name. Most are all private. There was one on the river where I spent much of my childhood, it was in fact called the Old River and resembled a deep slow moving creek, except that it didn't flow. It was long and narrow, about 6' at the deepest and a couple of miles long. There was also another much smaller one that resembled a U in the same bottom.

Those lakes are referred to as "oxbows." An oxbow can also be a U-shaped bend in a river, whether or not it's cut off. Oxbow lakes are more common on rivers with muddy banks.

And something else that might interest Wayne: My grandma went to high school with Yogi Berra in South City, and they've kept in touch over the years.

2, 3 & 4 I know are true. I also have no idea what a "Mo-Mo" is. Is it a Missouri Moron?

You guys don't remember Mo-Mo ? It was a family of Arkansas born Yeti's that migrated to Missouri rural areas. Back in the mid 70's people were seeing them everywhere. God I miss that good ol' Colombian shake.

If you haven't seen The Legend of Boggy Creek I think it is on YouTube. You should watch it....it is a classic.

Hey Cricket,

Judging by your avatar you were born post-Momo. I just checked, and there's a Wikipedia article on him. Just click here-> Momo

Mo-Mo was reported up around Louisiana, Mo. back in the 70's. Around Hannibal. Not too many years after the bigfoot picture came out. It was real alright... I've still got the costume.! B)

These pups are young if they don’t know what MoMo is!

The legend of Boggy Creek scared me so bad I couldn't go in the deep woods for weeks!

Little did I know then I would later grow up to marry its daughter! LOL

Yeah, that part where they talked about the thing picking up two 400lb pigs then stepping over the fence and walking away with them started me to thinking! And the hand through the bathroom window had me going to the bathroom well before dark! LOL Years later as an adult I found that movie in a video store and rented it to scare my kids. After watching it I can’t believe it ever scared me. Of course after being traumatized by today’s type films something like The Legend of Boggy creek looks week and cheaply made but back then we didn’t have anything to compare it to. I saw the movie for the first time at the drive inn and believed the monster was real. I looked over my shoulder more than once, alone in the woods as a young teenage, especially after dark. To tell you the truth, I’m disappointed that there is no Bigfoot. And where in the heck is my jet pack? I thought we were supposed to be flying around in the air like the Jetsons by now! I guess they got the future wrong didn’t they. Instead of flying around in the air were all just getting fat and loosing our hair! Well, you guys are, I’m not! LOL
