troutfiend1985 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 It seems that there is a general grumbling that there is not enough enforcement. As one person put it, we need more boots in boats instead of more laws. My question is, are you willing to pay more money to have more enforcement? Thoughts are welcome as I know that the MDC considered raising the price of a license but met criticism. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

If I had to pay $20 more for a license, for better enforcement, I'd go for that in a heartbeat. If it would really go to enforcement.
Al Agnew Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I agree with ozark trout fisher. Given the many duties a conservation agent has, it's rather ridiculous that for the most part there is only one per county.
fishinwrench Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Increasing license fees specifically to fund more enforcement could be a double edged sword. While I'll admit that it urks me to see someone violating game laws, I really don't want to be scrutinized and borderline harrassed every other time I visit a stream. I hate drunk drivers too, but I gotta tell ya....These DWI checkpoints really piss me off, and I kinda like not having Big Brother breathing down my neck while I'm doing what I enjoy the most. Ok, now it's a race to see who's the first person to say... "if you're not doing anything wrong then you've got nothing to worry about". Ready - set - GO !
awhuber Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Hey! This poll is rigged. It will not let you vote no. I pay plenty for a permit now. The MDC has plenty of funds to do their mission.
Root Admin admin Posted December 15, 2009 Root Admin Posted December 15, 2009 I edited the pole to allow a no vote on question #1.

I can agree, I don't want to have an agent gunning for me, but I also don't want to have people poaching. I would like to see more enforcement as long as the agent was doing his job and not "exercising" his authority in an overly liberal manner. I'm sorry about the poll not letting you vote no, it wasn't my intention to rig a poll or anything. I want to see what the people really think. and if someone feels that they pay enough already that is more than acceptable. I voted yes, if and only if the money would go to enforcement. I don't want to see any more money go to our stocking program, we already have a pretty good one. I'd rather see more enforcement agents in the areas that need it. I also wouldn't want to pay more for the exact same thing that we are getting right now. Although I think the MDC generally does a decent job, I don't see the need to increase the fees unless they are going to use the increased revenue for funding enforcement. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Gavin Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I wouldnt be willing to spend more for more enforcement....MDC has a $171 Million Dollar Budget...$103 Million of that is from the 1/8th cent sales tax...and permits only account for $31M...Most of their costs are payroll related......Check the numbers yourself..(Their financials are at the back) http://auditor.mo.gov/press/2009-113.pdf They have the funds for more enforcement, but they choose to spend it on other things.

I agree. It is a matter of priorites not a lack of funds.
