FishinCricket Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I have heard numerous stories from folks I know (online and in the "real" world) who have had good experiences with them, whether that be as a replacement for cigarettes or as a cessation technique.. Just looking for input from any locals who may currently own one, or have owned one. I am doing plenty of research online, but what have ye locals to say on the matter? cricket.c21.com
denjac Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 My youngest one bought one and said it was a joke. Like I told him though, with any stop smoking aid your mind has to be right. eric1978 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The only thing I've found that helps a little is the gum. By the time you chew a piece for a few minutes, you've forgotten about the craving. If you buy the generic Walgreens brand it's almost affordable (cheaper than cigs anyway). I tried Chantix for a month, and all it did was make me want to kill myself. They say depression is a side-effect for some people, and it definitely was for me. It did make cigs taste disgusting after a couple weeks, but it did nothing for my cravings. It's also insanely expensive. I also tried auriculotherapy...twice. Joke. The second time I did it, I went straight to the gas station from the doctor's office to get a pack. Nothing does the quitting for you. Like Denjac said, you have to really want to quit BAD. Doesn't matter what cessation aid you use, it's gonna be miserable either way. I can quit for weeks, but as soon as I open that beer, I'm screwed. I hate cigarettes.
getfished Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 What's their purpose? Is it intended to help you quit? If that's the case it doesn't make sense to me. If the intent is to allow someone a smoke without polluting the air or their body......... well I have some swampland ya might be interested in. http://www.tacklespecialty.com/
FishinCricket Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 Well I don't necessarily plan on quitting smoking by utilizing these things, but i figured even if the expense was about the same it would be a healthier alternative that smoking.. It would keep the burn holes out of everything, it would increase my wifes desire to be close to me, it would decrease the turn off some customers get when they smell my smokey odor, etc... I recognize that a "want" to quit is the only thing that will truly drive these poisonous things away from my daily schedule of bad habitual routines. That's for reminding me though.. lol So, anyone who has tried them or owns one? cricket.c21.com
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I don't know about the E-cigs but I know what worked for me. I got divorced. After the judge screwed me, my lawyer took me to the bar. We sat and got drunk till closing. At the end of the night I lit my last cig and told the boys I quit. They laughed but I never smoked again. My ex got divorced 4 more times so maybe those boys quit to. I can get her number if anyone needs it. SIO3

FishinCricket Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 I ordered a starter kit online from cigeasy.com ($45.00), so I'll report bac and let you all know my progress.. If I don't pull my hair out and chew my nails off first! lol this story made me want to consider another alternative to my horrid habit: http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-11705-NY-Holistic-Body--Spirit-Examiner%7Ey2009m7d12-Are-the-new-FSC-firesafe-cigarettes-making-smokers-sicker-than-ever Yeeeesh! stlfisher Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I quit smoking in August and it was tough. I had tried a dozen times. I was smoking a pack a day and realized that at close to $5 a pack I was spending $150 a month to basically purchase cancer while making some executive at Phillip Morris rich off my inability to quit. That did the trick for me. That is a lot of extra fishing tackle I can buy with that money. Whenever, I really feel the urge to smoke (mostly when I fish) I hit up my buddy for a dip. Not healthy, but better than smoking. It has been almost 6 months and I really do feel so much better now that I have quit. Another way that helped me to quit was the strong desire to retire as early as possible. $150 per month 12 months per year total spent per year $1800 I want to retire at 62 and I am 32 now. 1,800 per year x 30 years = $54,000 $54,000 invested over 30 years (150 per month, $1800 per year) @ 10% return for 30 years = 342,007.97 I haven't smoked since.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I forgot to add that toothpicks really helped. If you like menthol cigs buy peppermint picks, otherwise just get regular picks. They say a big part of the habit is what to do with your hands and mouth when you quit. Picks helped alot. SIO3
