Quillback Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Nice work 97, when you say you tune them, what exactly do you do? Do some of them not run straight, so you need to tune the bill? Or is it a weighting issue as far as getting them to suspend? I am mainly asking about stickbaits, I am thinking of buying some of the Netcraft bodies myself and I am curious to see what may need to be done to them besides painting.
Gary Lange Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Very nice work procraft97. You have a real talent for the design and creation of some great looking baits. Respect your Environment and others right to use it!
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Most pros modify and adjust their baits, so that need shouldn't turn anyone off. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
powerdive Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 GL, neither would I, but there are plenty of bassers who do. GF, yes, the Megabaits come ready to fish.
97procraft Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Quill, I am talking about tweeking the eye left or right to make the bait run true. I don't have to do it to all of them, but some. As far as suspending, they sell floaters and suspenders, so make sure you are buying the ones you want. I think the Floaters are cheaper. They do suspend fairly straight. I have adjusted some of the suspenders, but only to make the nose ride higher or lower when suspending. Also they sell 100's and 78's so make sure you are getting the ones you want.
motoman Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Dang 97, those look great! I buy the Jann's blanks myself, and have had good luck with them. Same experience with them you mentioned. - Although I use rattle can to paint mine, so they don't look anywhere near as good as yours; but decent enough for my budget. I'd like to invest in some airbrush stuff, but just can't take the plunge.
97procraft Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 As far as the jerks from Janns go, I have a ghost minnow Lucky Craft and I have placed it up to a blank from Janns and I can not find a difference in the construction. Same number of rattles, same size rattles and all of them are in the same place. The only thing that I have found is that the bill is not as clear on some as you would find in a store. I can live with that. Keep in mind these were all blanks, I have not bought any that were already painted. Moto, I started that way also. If you need any help let me know. I am now addicted. I have sanded down about 75% of my cranks and repainted them. I painted a Nemo colored crank eairler this year, but my daughter will not let me keep hooks on it. Instead she made me tie it on to her princess rod. Now it is here practice plug. I have run out of stuff to paint so now I am repainting my Save Phace mask. here is my nemo, I got the blank from Jann's as well, and a pb&j craw.
Quillback Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Thanks for the advice 97, I bought some 100's suspending, but I bought the pre-painted ones, one of these days I may get an airbrush and do a little painting myself. I don't know if you look at Ebay, but there's a lot of custom painted lures for sale there, lots of Bandit and Rapala crankbaits get repainted. Some of those guys do incredible work, and they can usually get anywhere from $12-20 per lure.
97procraft Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I have painted some for friends and they have told me that I should sell them. I have thought about it but, right now I am just trying to bet better. If you want anything done, let me know, we can work something out. I would work pretty cheap just to get more repititon. If you have some old lures that you don't like and would like a different pattern on let me know.
techo Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 You might get a lot of business! Those look phenomenal. I think I would rather have some custom painted ones from you too. I wish you lived a bit closer. I might PM uou once I get my stuff out of the boat and start going through it again. Tim Carpenter
