Yeah, that is a frustrating decision. You would think that the department would be more concerned about making sure that the stream doesn't have the "trout gut hatch" rather than having a live web cam. I think that people already know about Bennett, one needs to look no further than weekends at Bennett for proof of that. I just don't see the reasoning for spending money on a live web cam instead of investing that money into a cleaning station. Wish someone would be held liable for that call.

I guess to me it's a non-issue, it probably costs a whole lot less to put up and maintain a webcam than it does to put up and maintain a fish cleaning station.

I wonder if Trout Unlimited, Federation of Fly Fishers, or just a group of interested anglers could take up a collection to get a cleaning station built. Donate the funds to DNR with the stipulation they're used to construct the station. Perhaps even do an auction or some other fundraiser.

Since I catch and release, the gut station is wasted on me. But being able to see the condition of a stream before I leave on a 4 hour journey, handy. The live web cam costs a few hundred bucks, the gut station, several 100 thousands. $165,857.04 to be exact at the Montauk location, if it came in as bid without any change orders.

My point is not really the lack of a cleaning station, more of a "how many places can I go and NOT be filmed, especially without my knowledge".

Why spend money on webcams when you can maybe give someone even a part time job?

JD, there's not enough info already on line for you to determine if or if not BSSP is fishable? Really?

I overheard the old boys at the coffeeshop sayin' they had a few of em out there..

You reckon their plannin on sellin' videos of me takin a spill of that there dam?

I'll agree that it's nice to get a visual of the river before I head down...

I'll also agree that I don't enjoy the idea of being surveiled without my knowledge.. Does anyone know if they have any signs stating that you are being recorded?

Eh, I don't see anything too sinister about it. If someone gets their rocks off watching me fish over the internets, so be it- it's not as though I'm smoking dope or burying bodies. Sometimes other anglers wind up in the pictures I take of the stream or of a fishing partner's catch- does that constitute "surveilance?" Honestly, if I'm out fishing, I'm usually not thinking about much of anything else, much less where the cameras are.

And Bennett is a pretty popular, very public spot. And look at the bright side- it may even make people think twice about playing hookie from work, thereby lessening weekday crowds. ;)

If they needed the additional labor then sure, I wouldn't mind seeing more folks employed there as opposed to them investing in a webcam. But if it came down to it, I guess I'd rather have a live stream feed more than a guy being paid by DNR to sit in a shop and drink coffee half the day. Just my opinion though.

Hey, if you're not doing anything wrong then there's nothing to worry about. (there, got that out of the way)

Hold the phone !

$165,857.04 for a fish cleaning station ? Dude, I built a 1800sq.ft. two-story house with surrounding CCA deck and a seperate 30x30' garage for 98,675.00 just a couple years ago (less the concrete work). Who bid that project out ?

Or is this one of those things like the 400.00 toilet seats and 14.00 pencils at the county courthouse's ?

Truth be known, it may save a few jobs and catch a few poachers. One person watching several cams for violations. Of course, nobody has elaborated as to the location and number of the cams. It may be a way to monitor the hatchery. Lack of info leads to speculation.

Is this a live web cam so we can all watch?
