Dutch Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Sat morning during the storm will prolly be the best. Low light and few boats and almost no bankers because of muddy bottoms. Go for it.
Sam Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Right now- I'd like to know what 660 does to the K Dock ramp- any one? Phil, at 660-663 K Dock is still OK to launch. The water will be up to the top of the ramp, the parking lot shrinks a bit and the low road will be underwater, but use the high road and there's still room to park. K Dock becomes just about impossible from about 666-671. The parking lot goes underwater and the low road is too flat to launch off of. But when the lake gets up to 673 or so there's an easy place to launch in that dip where the little creek crosses the low road - where the low road and the high road split. I've had some great trips out of there when the water was at about 673, and there's parking for several rigs on that corner. I haven't used the new ramp at the end of MM yet, and since the long-term plan is supposed to raise the permanent water level on Bull Shoals, I think they built the new one as a replacement for the K Dock ramp. From the water, it's just across from and a little below Snapp Holler, and the way it's built you could launch there no matter how high the water gets. Someone here said loose rocks were used to build the approach and 4WD is needed, but I haven't tried it. To get there, turn east on MM a couple miles north of the Hwy. K turn-off and follow it to the end. MM is the intersection where that big convenience store is on the SE corner.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 1, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted April 1, 2010 I saw the ramp you're talking about- right across from Snapp. I thought it was private. MM - I've always turned off a road to the left off MM at the water tower to Black Ferry area (not sure if that's what it's called) but if you go straight you'll find this ramp? Never ventured down that road but will next time I head down there. Have to map it too.
Sam Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Phil, I just looked at it on Google Earth and if you keep going east on MM it makes a turn to the right and becomes Deer Lane. Go south on that, then turn left on Mission Lane to the ramp. It's interesting to look at that part of Bull Shoals on Google Earth because their pictures were taken when the water was very low. You can see a lot of features that are normally underwater, including all the sandbar whoop-de-dos around K Dock. I'm pretty sure the new ramp is public, and I'm real sure it's meant for high water. Last fall when they were building it the water was at normal 653' level, I scoped the area around the ramp, and there really wasn't enough water to launch. The new ramp goes straight up the hill, though, and it'll be usable no matter how high the water gets.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 1, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted April 1, 2010 Wonder if there's a parking lot up on the hill.
Ham Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Phil, could you make a sticky post that listed available ramps and water levels that they are usable? For instance, the ramp at Jimmy Creek nearest to the main lake is closed at 642, but looks like it wouls be ok to 690. Oakland can be used from about 648 (swag) to 663 (parking lot flooded) but then the road in can be used at 670 or so Pontiac can be used from ???? to 674 Spring Creek is hard because tthere is a very ackward range where it is too difficult and then if it gets high enough it reaches a steep section of road leading to the ramp that you could launch off of. Theodosia Park ??? to 671 but it might be possible to launch off the road down past Cookies at even higher levels than 671. Buck Creek works from 648 (lower?) to 660 w/o too much trouble, but the road down to the ramp could be used above 664 or so. maybe some of the other folks that use the lake a lot could help with this. If you could/would, putting it in a spread sheet form would be great Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
minnowhooker Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I would like to see the corp and county get together and make some parking and turn arounds on some of the roads that deadend into the lake. When you go south of Beaver (Cedar Creek and south) most people launch from roads. There is room at normal pp but when it gets 15'and above it gets tight. The corp has enough land high up to acommodate this but the will to turn loose of the money????? That end of the world has lots of roads that stop at the lake and with more people fishing BS's it would be nice. If they could find a way to charge people I'm sure it would get done.
