denjac Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Louie,Louie,oh baby now we gotta go yi yi yi yi. I remember when that song would corrupt and destroy America as we knew it. Stepenwolf Jethro Tull all sang about doing drugs and being on the wild side. Its just stuff kids like to hear, doesnt mean they will grow up that way. Still dont like Nelly though, not my knd of music. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Coldspring Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Heck, a lot of the old jazz songs from the 30s were about reefer. In fact, the influence of that is what caused the flow and beats for all that satanic vooddo music. Every redneck boy I know in the country runs around in their pickup blasting Tech 9, Three Six Mafia, Insane Clown Possee, or whatever other other the latest horrorcore or crunk hiphop music is, but if they ran into those guys down at the creek they'd probably have bad things to say about them. Those old jazz players didn't have good teeth either, no bigscreens and videos back then, now the rappers just get gold teeth and grills. I just can't tolerate the music of these kids, I need something soothing that RELAXES me! I've got enough stress and headaches! Getting to be an old codger already...when did society peak and start devolving?
eric1978 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 ...when did society peak and start devolving? Somewhere between 1978 and 1982, and by the mid-eighties it was in complete free-fall.
Outside Bend Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 This thread is a riot. You'd think there was never a rock or country song that had ever advocated the use of illegal drugs and the abuse of alcohol, talked about sex, degraded women, discussed murder, suicide, arson, railing against authority, or any other taboo subjects. All of this just suddenly materialized in rap, right? You've got Jim Stafford- a guy who peppers his family show with lame bathroom humor, sings a song about smoking pot with his brother, and throws mock cow turds at the audience. You have a brand new fountain, which did look pretty cool shooting jets of water and fire in time with AC/DC's "Thunderstruck," last time I saw it. There's a museum making profits off one of the greatest disasters in maritime history, and the building is designed to look like the Titanic hitting the iceberg. And you're worried Nelly isn't classy enough? I'd be willing to bet when the first acts arrived in Branson in the fifties, locals thought that was the end of a good thing. And when the strip started booming in the 80's, I bet locals thought it was the end of a good thing. And when Branson started ravenously expanding through the 90's and 00's, I know locals thought it was the end of a good thing. But maybe Nelly is just like when Ozzy and REO Speedwagon and Def Leppard played Lampe in the 80's- it seems like a huge, earth-shattering deal at the moment- but in a decade or two no one will remember. But for Branson to be a competitive tourist attraction into the future, I think they will have to diversify the attractions. Maybe that means Nelly, maybe not, I don't know. But Andy Williams isn't going to be around forever, and I can't think of any folks my age just dying to see the Osmonds. <{{{><
Coldspring Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 You've got Jim Stafford- Haven't been to a Branson show in a long time, but the only one I've seen more than once. Wonder what I ever did with my old toy cow patti disk from the gift shop? Hilarious post all around, right on the money!

Maybe if they put Band-Aids on their faces for no reason the kids would be more interested in them.
Gatorjet Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 Maybe if they put Band-Aids on their faces for no reason the kids would be more interested in them. The Band-Aid only has to be there until their brother gets out of jail! Real men go propless!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 14, 2010 Root Admin Posted July 14, 2010 I posted this on facebook a while back and I'll share it here. There's been a lot of music artist come and go here in Branson. The ones that are still here had several things going for them - good promotion, deep pockets/or/good budgeting and living on pennies, and the will to stick it out even when the crowds don't show up at first. Those that didn't make it: Johnny Cash David Brenner Willie Nelson Tony Orlando There are others... can't remember them all. Point is, you can have a name and decent show but if you don't promote and don't stay with it, you'll be one of the has-beens of Branson. My guess, Nelly will be a has-been. Nothing against his music, there are other factors I see that don't look good.

Nelly setting up shop in Branson = EPIC fail. (no explanation needed) I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. eric1978 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I'm pretty sure Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson could have drawn a crowd any time in Branson, but they spent most of their time in Nashville.
