MOsmallies Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Yeah those fish were fun to catch! Still thinking about fighting that big smallie. I'm very lucky to have been able to fish with Smalliebigs for the past 5 years as he really does know the Ozarks like the back of his hand. Oh and the rum was darn good as well. Smalliebigs makes some mean river dribble! Paul MOsmallies
Smalliebigs Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 I'm resting my stomach for a few days, I just got back from Mexico City on business. How about the week after next? your boat or mine? Mitch, I sold my jet to my brother and he is moving to Mississippi. I do have a 19 foort SeaArk with a 110 Yamaha on the back, I really have been letting that thing go unused it's a travesty!!! It's has a prop but you can use on the lower end of rivers if you know what you are doing. I have some pretty cool canoes though, with different types of motors for them. Mexico City, I've heard it's beautiful???? watch out for the water and the ice cubes if you are drinking!!!!! I found a little jet, a guy out by my farm wants to sell he used twice and it is 7 years old. It's only a 16 foot Lowe with a 40 hp Johnson jet on the back. The thing has been sitting in one of his barns and he dosen't like the boat. He only took it out by himself and he said it would slide around on him. I told him he neede some weight up front, he just wants to unload it. My wife is going to kill me if I buy it, but he is going to put it on craigslist next week if I don't react he said. He said he would take $2900 for it, it looks brand new, but I didn't know if there would be any issues with it sitting idle so much????It also has a nice galvanized trailer. Do you know if this would be an issue.I pretty sure he winterized it but what about water pump and rubber seals???? This boat has seriously only been used about two or three times, it's pathetic!!!
Smalliebigs Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 Sounds like a plan that could be worked out! I'm actually going to STL this weekend but it is to pickup (hopefully) a new truck and I will have the wife and child along. JDC, why do you have to come to St.Louis to buy a truck????price????or they don't have the one you need down there???

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I don't think you'll find one any cheaper than that. I mounted my batteries up front for the weight; it seems to help. It looks like I have to go to Mexico City again next week, but I really don't want to. The altitude is 7,000 feet, and it's actually cooler there than it is in St. Louis, partly because it is their rainy season. As soon as you leave the airport though you need to cover your nose!!!!!!! We drove three hours to the city where the work was to be done. On the way we passed some of the worst living conditions I have ever seen. I would much rather be living in a tent in the woods than these houses! Once we arrived in Queretaro, it was a nice place similar to any city in the USA. I will let you know when I can go fishing, I'm looking forward to it. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Do you think that 40 hp jet would have some issues sitting that much???The rubber seals dry rotting??? He did disconnect the fuel line, I am beeing a puss about it, I should just go give him the $3000 and be done with it and feel the rath of my wife for buying yet another boat!!!!! If this thing goes on craigslist it will be gone in a matter of hours I would think??? It's 2003 that he didn't buy until 2004 new. This old guy is not in the best shape I don't think I can get him to take the boat down to the river???He just had a stroke last year and his legs aren't working to well, it's buyer beware buy as is deal.

Trout Commander Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 JDC, why do you have to come to St.Louis to buy a truck????price????or they don't have the one you need down there??? Well it is a combo of both price and availability. I've been looking for, going on over a year now, for an '03 or '04 Land Rover Discovery II and there aren't a whole lot around the Springfield area. The ones that do pop up are always at stealerships with well over 100k on the clock for 12-15k. I finally found an '03 with 103k for $5500 through an individual. If it pans out it will be well worth the wait and drive. If its a bust we will hit the zoo, visit my sister and will still be worth the drive. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

Wow, that's not only an extremely specific search but a (potentially) fantastic deal, according to my books... Kudos on that, hopefully.. Good luck. cricket.c21.com
Trout Commander Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Wow, that's not only an extremely specific search but a (potentially) fantastic deal, according to my books... Kudos on that, hopefully.. Good luck. Yeah even more specific was my ext color preferences and int color choice. But so set on '03 or '04 because it was the only two year they produced the "facelifted" discoveries that have better braking, handling and the 4.6 range Rover motor. '02 was still the old style and '05 brought on the LR3 (which is even better but out of the budget) and I was really holding out for an '04 but I found this deal and can't pass it up. One reason it is so cheap is because it needs a new windshield. The new heated windshield would be nearly $1k installed. BUT, I work at a glass shop and can get it at cost, or the even cheaper non heated version I hope it works out as well. I have looked at enough (even the over priced ones) to be well enough educated at what to look for and have gained a wealth of knowledge from the Discovery boards not unlike this one that I will make an informed purchase and not a "well gee I've driven all this way I am not going to go home without it now" purchase. Thanks for the luck. I have my fingers crossed. Cricket where do you live? Have you seen any '03 or '04s going through Manheim or any other auctions in Sgf or your area? Feel free to pm me if you like so we don't take this thread even further off track lol. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.
