Hey Folks, Could someone post some pics of trout jigs that actually catch fish. I have the chance to fish in the ozarks. I have never fished for trout enough to know what i'm doing. I'd hate to buy a bunch of stuff I won't use.

thanks

www.zigjig.com have worked in the past for me. I bought some www.flatheadjigs.com and I am going to try them out this weekend. They are quite a bit cheaper but there are not as many colors.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

I use 1/8 oz most of the time. Double Olive. Olive/Ginger. Olive/Back. Olive/Orange.

I fish them on 4 lb and 6 lb co-poly. I pinch barbs. Easy hooksets and I'm total C&R for trout.

Jigs will catch small trout without fail. Every so often, I mean rarely, you might get lucky and catch a lunker. Instead, buy gold and black F11 Rapalas and flail away. You'll be amazed how many, and how large, the fish you'll catch. Use 6 or 8 pound test. It's not glamorous, but it is effective, especially if you want a decent chance at scoring a trophy. If not, well...

The above applies to the Current River. The Meramec too.

I have had really good luck with plain old maribou jigs that I buy in Tim's shop. Olive with a red collar and black bead head is my favorite, followed closely by a gold bullet headed olive jig with rubber legs that he makes there in the store. Not only have I caught lots of fish on these two, but I have caught several real nice 20+ inch fish with them. I'm np expert to say the least, but I sure believe in jigs nowadays.

You may find this hard to believe but the white 1/32 oz crappie jigs you buy at Wal-Mart kills 'em. You know, the ones with the white chenille wrap body and the maroubou tail? They are cheap and readily available. Too bad they don't make them in olive or black and yellow.

FYI, my largest trout to date, a 28" Rainbow from Taneycomo right below the rebar back in the summer of '90, fell to a black 1/64 oz crappie jig I bought it at the Branson Consumers store (am I dating myself??). BassSnapper brand, I don't think they are around anymore (Consumers or BassSnapper). Man, I'm feeling old now.

Don't forget black & yellow, no matter what brand! Black, olive, and white are the next colors in my top 5.

PJ's Finesse Baits at ejigs.com---many colors and many sizes. 3/32nd's work on most water leves, but you can size up or down from there. Sculpin Olive will catch trout, largemouth, smallmouth, and Kentucky's.
