gotmuddy
Why are some members afraid of letting other members know where they fish? Is it because you want the creek or river all for yourself? Do not delude yourselves, the kind of people that poach smallies do not read this forum. In fact I have found no one while fishing who has even heard of this website. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you. eric1978
Do not delude yourselves, the kind of people that poach smallies do not read this forum. Don't be naive. That's simply not true. Finding quality stretches of water takes work and it is part of the joy of the angling experience, at least for me. I, for one, will not be blathering about my hotspots on a public forum, but I gladly share my knowledge with friends and other trustworthy people that want to trade info. I don't have a problem mentioning a bigger river, but I won't be naming any small streams or creeks. I'll make vague hints to which streams I fish, and I'll post pics of my trips, and if someone recognizes it, then it's no secret to them anyway...and if you don't recognize it, I urge you to go out and find it and have a great time exploring in the process. Thanks Eric. I could not have said that any better than you did. You believe what you want GM, but you are bringing extra pressure on the areas you fish and that is NOT a good thing. It's worse when you bring extra pressure on areas that I fish. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. You do not want anyone fishing where you fish. I have no problems with people fishing streams I fish, I do not own them. I fished from Riverton to myrtle last weekend with my wife and until I got to the narrows we saw 1(one) boat and 1(one) canoe. I bet if I go back this weekend it will be the same. Maybe the mods will post up the unique hit count for a day/week/month. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
id10t
So I am right? You do not want anyone fishing where you fish. I have no problems with people fishing streams I fish, I do not own them. There is a certain level of trust that does not exist on a board. I have no issue inviting someone from the board to fish with me or even ask to go fishing with someone else. I can understand why folks don't give directions to their favorite spots.
Trav
I think tactics and geographic simularities are more important than specific locations. It would be nice to have everyone share where a missed road bed or sunken fence line is but I have found people "think" it is a secret spot when all they really have is a target point. If you read between the lines, most people give enough info to remind you of locations you already know about. This info can be used all over a body of water if you know fish are congregating a certain way. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Wheatenheimer
I would be more than willing to take anyone interested to any and/or all of my hotspots under the agreement that you are willing to wear a blindfold for the ride to and from and you leave your cell phone and GPS at home. Sorry for the run on sentance, Eric.
stlfisher
It isn't about "owning" the stream and keeping other people away really. For me it is all about the poachers and I doubt they are going to reveal the source (OAF) of his/her information. That could turn off the spicket and the poachers would actually have to find a spot to poach the hard way. However, it might be entertaining if two poachers reading this site used information to find a new spot to clean out. Both show up to the same spot on the same day. Imaging the scene when a poacher poaches another poacher's hot spot. Now that would just be unethical. Keep your small water spots amongst friends and leave out the details. I enjoy the reports, but do watch what I say if it is "secret spot." I have been burnt too many times to take any chances.
10pointer
Ive had too many spots (mushroom, bass, arrowheads etc) ruined because ive told someone under strict secrecy. These are people I trust but they end up telling or taking a friend and once word gets out your honeyholes are shot. I look at it as i have to take the time to find the place on my own...so others should do the same. Being kind hearted especially on the internet isnt always the best idea, you never know who will see what you post. Id be more than happy to tell somebody or take someone with me that i personally know well. I guess it has come down to being burnt so many times on great spots that have been overrun. flytyer57
I don't know what the problem is either. Before you found it, somebody else found it. And after you're gone, somebody else will find it. There's always a chance that anybody who comes across a stream is a poacher. That is what the poacher hotlines are for. If you see it, report it. I'm not afraid to give up my faorite fishing hole. I know others know all about it. If it's on a county map, you can bet your sweet butt somebody else knows about it. Hell, I'll even give you plain and simple directions. Take Hwy 62 east or west depending on your location, to Yellville, AR. Turn south on Hwy. 14. Go across two brides and there will be an entrance to a park on your left (across from the gas station.) Crooked Creek. Some of the best darn smallmouth fishinig in the Ozarks. But god forbid, just don't tell anybody. I don't want it full of poachers next time I go. And yes, I am being sarcastic in return to your ignorant thoughts of "secret streams." There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
