fozzype Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I think everybody should get their panties out of a wad. I agree the smallmouth hang on ledges and gravel. Anyone ever dove in this lake? The smallmouth will relate to very small depressions, rocks, and other cover on these banks when not acitively feeding. I think the small rock piles and stumps could just enhance the fishability of a bank. Pull up catch a few jaws, then a few LM or Kentucks off a brush pile without moving a whole lot. Plenty of pea gravel to go around. At least the MDC is trying to help the bass fisherman and not spending all their money on 6" Trout ! (Sorry Phil) B. Foz
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 23, 2010 Root Admin Posted October 23, 2010 At least the MDC is trying to help the bass fisherman and not spending all their money on 6" Trout ! (Sorry Phil) 4-inch trout.
Members walleyed2 Posted October 23, 2010 Members Posted October 23, 2010 First let me say that I am a riverwalker. I learn so much from this forum. I by no means know a tenth of what a lot of the contributors know about the "Rock." But, I want to thank both Bill and Lilley for their input. It starts a conversation that teaches some, challenges others, and hopefully protects what we all LOVE fishing. For whatever species. On one hand there is a question.....unanswered. On the other hand and I thank you Phil, there was a connection to MDC w/an explanation. I volunteer to do water quality tests for the MDC and know that if you have a question they may not answer here, but they will give you answers if you ask. There are a lot of answers.....but, first you have to ask the questions.
skeeter Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I bet what you saw in 08 was MDC putting in Christmas trees. They do that every year, not part of this project. I thought putting in trees was supposed to attract or give shelter to minnows and other small fry as protection, esp right after spawn. I'm not sure... I'm NOT an authority on the big lake or bass fishing at all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Could have been Christmas trees I suppose. Good suggestion because they have never marked these locations on their map. Didn't know that was a separate project and that they do that every year. They dumped them about every 100 feet or so along the bank and it could have well been for minnow and fry cover which is a plus in that cove.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 23, 2010 Root Admin Posted October 23, 2010 Yea- they dump Christmas trees every year - it's not part of this project. They've been doing that for years. I'll ask if the projects overlap and if the trees are marked at all.
bobby b. Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 so did they just add the GPS locations to the existing file or can I get just the new locations and if so where?? Thx Bob
