Gents (and ladies),

I was wondering if any of you fly specialist have made a White Wulff before. I'm looking for someone to make me five or six white wulffs, but I would like the front hackle section to be in a hi-vis neon color. I would like some in a size 10 and some in an 8. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee and shipping. If you are in the St. Louis area, I can meet you for an exchange. I would also be really interested in a glo ball with a styrofoam core (so it will float).

The goal is to replace the little Styrofoam dot indicators that I'm currently using. I find that I get a quite a few hits on the indicators, so I figured I switch.

If your interested, please let me know.

Mic

I'm sure there are several people on here that would be happy to help you out. I'm swamped with some big orders right now, but if you still dont have any in a month, let me know and I will fix you up.

I don't have any decent neon dry fly hackle, but how about neon wings....

OR... you could just take a neon sharpie marker (wal-mart) to a regular White Wulff :)

Thanks for the offer, but I need them (hopefully) for December. However side question...my wife and I are thinking about taking up fly tying as a hobby we can do together. Can you recommend any good starter sets?

Thanks In Advance,

Mike

I would suggest a simple and cheap tool kit that comes with a vise. They run about $30.00 for the set and you can get them at BPS or Cabelas to start with. As far as materials, I would decide on a couple of fly patterns to tie and just buy the supplies for those. After you have mastered those flies, pick a few more patterns and buy the materials for them. Do this a couple of times and next thing you know, you will be devoting a whole room to fly tying.

Most kits that come with materials give you things you wont really use very much.

My wife and I tie all the time together. We very rarely ever watch TV so we have the tying table and vises set up in front of the TV.

Man, you ain't lyin'. After just a few months of picking up this and that to tie a few particular flies, you'll have enough materials to tie hundreds of patterns. A couple hundred bucks for the right materials will get you a long way down the road (stream, whatever), and all you'll have to buy eventually is hooks and a few odds and ends to replace the most commonly used materials. And tying is fun!

Or a real pain in the a** if those hackles don't lay right, or when you start getting old and can't see a size 20 hook let alone tie on it.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
