Members Adam Snodgrass Posted October 30, 2010 Members Posted October 30, 2010 Quick question about the Winter catch & release season at Montauk: Do they only allow fishing in the park itself, or can you still fish downstream below the park? Thanks, Adam
eric1978 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 The Blue Ribbon section goes by Blue Ribbons regs all year...nothing changes there.
Members 97trout Posted November 3, 2010 Members Posted November 3, 2010 I have a few questions also. Is the store open during C/R? Do you have to buy daily tag? Is there still a horn that blows to signal begin and end? I have intended to go several years but have never made it, hoping to get there this year.
stlfisher Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I am not sure about the store, but you don't have to buy a daily tag. You can show up, gear up, and fish. There is a horn that signals the beginning and the end. C/R is a great time. If you fish outside of the park and intend to keep fish (18 minimum length...1 fish) you will need a trout permit.
awhuber Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Montauk The store is open during c and r and they move some tables out there and have a limited menu from the restaurant. I go most Fri mornings and fish for a few hrs. Most times I share the whole park wth 1 or 2 others til around noon when more folks start showing up.

You do need the trout stamp to fish inside the parks during CnR. It took the place of the winter tag a few years ago. SIO3
Gavin Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I believe that the fishing in the park is limited to the water above the Handicapped patio in Campground Loop 3...Water below the park is open year round.
bikehikefish Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Hours are 8 AM to 4 PM, no bait, no plastic worms, trout stamp is required as SIO3 stated. Once, during one the first years of catch release, I was the only fisherman in the park at 8:00 AM. The only thing that would have made it better would be the temperature rising above freezing and if the sleet would have stopped.

The boundary used to be the bridge as you come in to the park and above, when did they change it? ozark trout fisher Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Montauk during C&R is a lot of fun. In my opinion it's too crowded the rest of the year, but during the coldest days of December and January..........It's game on. One more thing about catch and release fishing at Montauk-bring lots of small orange and pink egg patterns!
