Mine varies. Last trip it was a Guns and Roses and Metallica. My collection is mostly rock and metal.

I save Kenny G and Michael Bolton for bath time with a box of Franzia and a couple of drunken floaters.

Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Rossington Collins, 38Special, CDB, that's my choice for pre-fish jams.

(No ZZtop though,they suck) Neil Young is great too, I need to download some tracks...thanks for the suggestion. Oh, and the anamosity between NY and Van Zant really wasn't genuine, they were tight. Just look at Ronnie's tee shirt on the Street Survivors cover.

Heart, ARS, Head East, Journey, or whatever is playing on the radio usually works for the ride home.

From what I've read so far, it seems that there is a mix of classic rock, southern rock, more recent mainstream "rock," some bluegrass, and a definite taste for the 60's-70's stoner rock.

Now there really isn't anything wrong with anything listed (except Nickelback), but I'm mainly classic/southern rock (Allman Bros., Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, original Skynyrd) when I go fishing. But I'll always be listening to something punk given the chance- Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Sum 41, Flogging Molly, and most notably- the Offspring. Also, the more recent Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff is pretty mellow and gets me in a good frame of mind. If these bands sound odd to you, just remember- I had an 8" mohawk for 3 months up until yesterday, and had no problem fly-fishing with it.

Saw Big Smith last Saturday night at the Old Rock House. Great and very talented band, excellent songwriting.

I don't have "fishing music" per se. But always playing something.

Neil Young does go well with driving through the country. I think its the harmonica, and the songs in general with that high-pitch voice. I can only take about 5 or 6 songs of it and then I have to mix it up. Dylan and Cash are the same way.

Stuff in my car:

Tom Waits, Nick Lowe, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Graham Parker, John Hiatt, Townes Van Zandt, Charlie Haden, the new Mellencamp is surprisingly good, Ray Lamontagne, Costello, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Dylan, Bruce, John Lee Hooker (hows that for fishing?), Robert Cray, Clapton, Jolie Holland, bunch of other stuff.

Not allowed in the car:

Kenny Chesney or anything remotely similar. Dave Matthews Band I can't stomach. There is a lot of crap out there that people lap up.

I agree with you, regardless of what cricket says, Dave Matthews blows goats....have pictures, also Kenny Chesney is a complete TOOL!!
