Ahh Mr. Young. Yes indeed. Cortez the Killer. Old Man.

But when I travel to fish, its the Allman Brothers for me. Toss in Live at the Fillmore East and get lost in thought and the beauty of winding your way through the Ozarks. Then play disc 2.

Probably my favorite Neil song is Down Down Down, Eric if you don't have it let me know and I'll get you a copy.

Got it. Came with that ridiculously expensive Archive set that I was thoroughly disappointed with. He actually broke that song down and made at least two others out of it...parts of the lyrics went to Broken Arrow and others went to Country Girl on CSNY's Déjà Vu.

Hey Eric, that local Springfield band (Big Smith) that I turned you on to, does a great cover of "Dance, dance, dance." I'll see if I can find a copy of it for ya!

Yeah, you already gave me that one Wheat. Pretty dang good!

I like a lot of the music listed above and Neil Young is a good choice, but when I am going fishing and have a long ride, I look to the Waterboy's Fisherman's Blues album or one of their live albums. One of the best under the radar bands since the early eighties and still going strong. Mike Scott is a great song writer that not enough people have heard of.

It varies, 'cause I'm always mixing it up. But the long drives often result in me associating a particular artist or album with a certain trip.

Trip last spring it was Marshall Tucker. Another one, Little Walter & Howlin' Wolf (Chicago blues harmonica). There's been a lot of Niel Young, Alison Kraus, Chet Atkins, Bill Monroe, Lonesome River Boys, Jack Johnson. Remember a couple trips long ago with Nancy Griffith and Mary Chapin Carpenter, another Johnny Cash. When I hear "I Am Woman" it reminds me of duck hunting trips with my dad and brother when I was a kid. Hate the song, love the memory.

Gavin -- you've always got something interesting in the car. I like it when you're driving!

Satellite has made it possible to hear a lot of different stuff anywhere, but I get plenty of that day-to-day. When I'm hitting the road, I set up a playlist on the iPod and listen & learn something new.

Long drives home on Sunday, I'll often listen to Prairie Home Companion to get my fill of corn(y).

On a normal fishing trip I usualy have Ozzy, Sabbath, Nugent and similar music going, however when I plan on flyfishig for trout, especially somewhere remote Iron Butterfly's In a gadda da vida is my set the mood chill out song. All 19 minutes of the live version.

Right on, man... I'm with you. Specifically I start the playlist with Orchid leading into Lord of this World, then NIB, Sleeping Village, Children of the Grave, then After Forever.. Usually I skip on to Megadeth or Metallica, Joe Satriani and other "WAKE UP" music..

Once I'm good and awake I like to switch to rap, starting with some Cyprus Hill, Warren G, Dre and some o dem brothas from the LBC.. Throw in some of that new white rapper guy that's not vanilla ice..

Slide straight outta that into Sublime, Cat Stevens, Pearl Jams "Yellow Leadbetter", BTO, BOC, Uriah Heap, Ten Years After etc..

This kinda stuff:

I tend to be a bit eclectic.. (or eccentric, depends on who you ask) no one so far has listed anything I dislike...

When I was younger a buddy of mine would drive to the lake to go crappie fishing, jammin out to the old single "Natural One" by Folk Implosion.. Hearing that song always makes me check for "crappie thumb"...

Might not be for everyone, but to me it's an interesting subject. I have to drive along way to get to a trout stream, usually waking up a 3:30 to go(broke law students don't have the $$ to get a hotel room). But for me, the drive down there is almost half the fun(the drive back sucks, but that's a different story). So I was wondering, does anyone has a certain type of music they listen to before they go fishing? Or a song that reminds them of fishing? Maybe I'm just weird(ok, I know that I'm weird, but again, a different story there too.) For me, Neil young is the best music to listen to before I go out. I 25, but I still find his music appealing. Especially, Live at Massey Hall. What say you?

Are you a 'Roo TF???

It seems like every time I hit the road for a trout stream I reach for the Jamey Johnson CD, followed by a Johny Cash album. Then that always makes me want to listen to Everlast's Love, War & The Ghost of Whitey Ford which is a smooth transition into the rap collection OR I go to one of my favorite mixes with Skynard, Hank Jr., Jennings, Big Smith more Jamey Johnson and Johnny Cash and others. Some days the mood strikes for some BB King or Muddy Waters and my day starts with blues and the music choice takes a whole 'nother path. I too am very eclectic in my tastes of music.

I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.

Get yourself some "Ozark Mountain Daredevils" It'll put you in the Ozarks before you even get there.

I am an avid fly fisher. I love fishing the Ozarks and the White River watershed from the spring creeks to the tailwaters.

Saw Big Smith last Saturday night at the Old Rock House. Great and very talented band, excellent songwriting.

I don't have "fishing music" per se. But always playing something.

Neil Young does go well with driving through the country. I think its the harmonica, and the songs in general with that high-pitch voice. I can only take about 5 or 6 songs of it and then I have to mix it up. Dylan and Cash are the same way.

Stuff in my car:

Tom Waits, Nick Lowe, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Graham Parker, John Hiatt, Townes Van Zandt, Charlie Haden, the new Mellencamp is surprisingly good, Ray Lamontagne, Costello, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Dylan, Bruce, John Lee Hooker (hows that for fishing?), Robert Cray, Clapton, Jolie Holland, bunch of other stuff.

Not allowed in the car:

Kenny Chesney or anything remotely similar. Dave Matthews Band I can't stomach. There is a lot of crap out there that people lap up.
