Stoneroller Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Al, I'm really liking that spotted bass idea and I think I might steal it. I'd really like to see you participate too. we should talk and see what we can come up with. I think that would be an awesome way to help curb the spots and resolve the issue of fishing on top of each other in the river. come to think of it, I caught mostly spots last time I was on the meramec... Smalliebigs Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I'm in Mike....mabey I'll be able to actually fish by then...
Smalliebigs Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Can I fish out of Old town with the 5 hp Yamaha on the back or do I have to fish from a yak???
Stoneroller Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 must be non motorized. I'm currently working on a set of 'guidelines' for what I'll probably refer to as a "club scramble" instead of a tournament so as not to confuse people about possible 'prizes'. and yeah, hopefully you will be able to actually go fishing by then! Al Agnew Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 The last spotted bass round-up I attended, rules were simply that you could fish anywhere in the Meramec system. The weigh-in and fish fry were at Robertsville State Park; I think everybody was supposed to be back there by 6 PM. The lower Meramec, lower Bourbeuse, and lower Big River (all three with plenty of spotted bass) were all within easy driving distance of the park. If I remember correctly there was no entry fee and all you got for winning was a cheap trophy, but those who wished could throw in five bucks apiece for the big bass prize. You could do it that way, or limit it to one river. If you had a series of, say, three round-ups, you could have one on the Bourbeuse, one on the Meramec, and one on Big River. The Smallmouth Alliance held several at Devils Back Campground on the Bourbeuse, which is about halfway down the floatable water of the Bourbeuse. You could hold the Big River one at Washington State Park, which is about halfway down the floatable water of Big River. At the state parks I believe you can reserve a pavilion, which is what the SMA did at Robertsville.
Smalliebigs Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I tend to agree with Al, I think you should focus on the rivers for a Spotted Bass round up, with a fish fry at the end.Lets fry as many of those spots as we can.
eric1978 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Al, I'm really liking that spotted bass idea and I think I might steal it. THAT I would participate in. The Bourbeuse would be another good option...it's close to St. Louis, it needs its spots removed badly, and it's a more difficult river to float without your own shuttle, so it would be an opportunity to do sections of the river some of us don't often (or ever) get to fish. I probably wouldn't be all that interested in that until spring, though. EDIT: Oops, I shoulda read farther before posting...looks like I just repeated what y'all already said.
Stoneroller Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 I'm liking your method, Al. I think we'll have to do that this spring. no entry fee, but $5 towards big bass sounds like a great idea, I have a couple of ideas for small, cheap prizes too. I have noticed that many kayak 'events' allow participants to put in anywhere within a desinated area, which is quite unlike an event with powered boats, where trailering your boat during the event results in dq. I'm currently putting together some 'guidelines' ie 'rules' too. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Members fishin_addict Posted December 22, 2010 Members Posted December 22, 2010 I need to check out the spotted bass round ups. I'm in St. Louis and would fish the power plant lakes too, but I've been on my own spotted bass roundups on the Meramec and think that is a great idea.
Outside Bend Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 The spot roundup sounds like a pretty cool idea, you may be able to get Smallmouth Alliance or some other folks involved as well. Hope it works out! <{{{><
